How To: Get the Perfect Blowout

Summer can be a tricky time for hair, especially for us curly headed gals and those prone to frizz. Which is exactly why I tend to straighten my hair more often in the summer. It's just so much more manageable and when done correctly and with the right products I can have a blowout that lasts 2-3 days. For a 3rd day blowout, I definitely recommend using some dry shampoo as well! Keep reading for some of my current favorite products and tools to get that perfect summer blowout!

KMS Freeshape® 2-in-1 styling + finishing spray
Perfect for styling 2nd day hair.

  1. Keeps it dry - Dries instantly to not dampen your existing style.
  2. Keeps it protected - Thermal protection so you can refresh your style with hot tools.
  3. Keeps it light - Finish with a light, flexible hold for no product build-up.
I'm a huge fan of styling 2nd day hair to still look great and I'm a huge fan of products that make doing my hair quick and simple. That's why I'm loving KMS Freeshape styling & finishing spray. My hair is naturally curly and pretty unruly in summertime and this has really been helping me to be able to style my hair so I don't look like a crazy person. It definitely has a light weight non greasy application and I love that it has heat protection built right in so I don't have to add another product.

KMS Quick Blow Dry
Faster blow dry and light conditioning.
Speeds up drying time up to 50%. Reduces friction while conditioning lightly. Provides heat protection.
Use by spraying onto towel-dried hair as a last step before blow drying. Style as usual.

I've tried a lot of products that claim to speed up drying time, but I feel like it was pretty noticeable with this product. I usually part my hair and do it in sections and I definitely noticed that my hair was drying quicker with the blow dryer than it was before. This especially comes in handy when I'm using a large round brush to style my hair. It cuts down on having to run the brush through a 3rd or 4th time since my hair is already dry and styled much quicker. This is also lightweight and non-greasy.

Perfect Blowout Tools & Products

John Frieda Styling Tools by Conair Satin Finish Flat Iron ($54.00)
Fight that warm weather humidity and achieve pin-straight hair has never looked sleeker or felt softer. The revamped, premium flat iron now features generously sized 1 1/2” inch plates that allow for quick, easy straightening and are developed with unique ceramic titanium coating, which offers anti-bacterial benefits to keep hair healthy, shiny, and free of frizz.

This has been my go-to flat iron lately. Having naturally curly hair, I've gone through a lot of flat irons. I find when using this flat iron that my hair really is straightened pretty easily. I have a medium curl that can be pretty pesky, but this tool does the job. I also love the sleek look & design.

Philip B Anti-Frizz Formula 57
Smoothing shine drops tame frizz and flyaways, for a beautifully satiny, long-lasting blowout.
Glossing botanicals (Pure Vitamin E, Lavender, Jojoba, Rice Bran and Soybean Oils) enhance highlights and radiance. Smooths and strengthens; protects hair from heat styling
Locks out humidity for a frizz-free finish that lasts for days.

After I've applied the above products and used the flat iron, I like to top off the look with some of this anti-frizz serum.  Having naturally curly hair, my hair, even when straight is prone to frizz. I pump a couple pumps of this into my hands, rub between my hands and apply lightly to my hair. I definitely notice an improvement in shine and frizz reduction. I also love that this is color safe and paraben and phthalate free.
