Hold Your Horses with the Cottonelle Kentucky Derby

Cottonelle is one of the sponsors of the Kentucky Derby this year because they know that looking your best and feeling fresh and clean is especially important for big events and celebrations. Did you know that before celebrities hit the red carpet and the races, they first stop in the green room to relax and freshen up. Cottonelle will be on-hand in what they’re dubbing the “Clean Room” with refreshments, a hair and makeup touch-up/refresh station!

This inspired me to create a fresh style of my own. I love Kentucky Derby style because it pairs some classic pieces with some fun hats, glasses, shoes, etc. I love that you can look great while taking some stylistic risks. Where else can you wear huge hats and big feathers and flowers and completely fit right in?

Simple & Sweet Makeup Look in 10 Minutes

Sweet & Simple in 10 Minutes

I like makeup that is simple, quick and natural looking. I don't have much time to get ready in the morning so makeup and hair that takes around 10 minutes is my go to thing. I've got some favorite product I use nearly daily to create a simple sweet look. All the product above have been getting a lot of use lately and I love the look that I created. Keep reading for details on products used!

Tarte Clay Primer in Fair is a product that look me a couple uses of to fall in love with. When I first applied it, I applied it more with a heavy hand because I was wanting more coverage. I found that it clung to dry skin when I did that. Now I just swipe a few swipes on my cheeks, around my nose and 1 swipe on my forehead and 1 swipe on my cheek. This method has been working so well for me. It evens out my skintone and provides just the right amount of coverage and color correction that I need. I literally use this nearly every single day and it's going to become even more a favorite as it gets warmer out.

DHC BB Mineral Powder
I apply this powder over Clay Primer when I just need a little bit of extra coverage and evening out. I always use a finishing powder, it just depends on how my skin looks that day as to whether I use a clear one or one with some color to it like this powder. This minimizes dullness and shine, helps makeup last longer, covers flaws, brightens and fights visible signs of aging and comes in a gorgeous gold compact with a super soft powder puff applicator.

Make Up For Ever Cream Eyeshadow in 16 Pink Beige is one of those rare products I'll actually completely finish and will 100% be replacing. I use this color several times per week. You can apply just one layer for a sheer bright look or you can build up the color. This does not budge at all, making it worry free in application and throughout the day.

Lancome artliner has been a long time favorite of mine that I use nearly every single day. This is the easiest liquid liner I've ever used. I'm able to create thin lines, thicker lines or cat eyes with ease.

Benefit Lolitint is a product I've been using several times a week lately. This can be used as a cheek or lip stain and I prefer to use this as a lip stain. Use the included brush to apply a light layer to your lips for a subtle pop of color and let dry. You can also apply 2-3 more layers as the color is buildable. Wear time is around 3 hours and if you want even more pigmented lasting color, apply LORAC's Orchid 8 hour luxe lip color over. (In the photos I'm just wearing lolitint)

Sephora Pantone Universe Rush Luster Cheek Sweep-Radiant Orchid Blush is a gorgeous purple blush. I apply this with my fluffy Make Up For Ever 122 Blending Brush and just lightly tap it into the product as it is highly pigmented. I love the flush of color I get by applying it this way. The Rush Luster also includes two coordinating highlighter colors.

Urban Decay Eyeliner in Rockstar has become my new favorite eyeliner. Normally I use Urban Decay Underground every single day and it's worn down to a nubbin, so I searched through my stash and rediscovered this beauty. Rockstar is a deep plum with glitter that really accentuates my green eyes. True to Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners, this is also easy to apply and long lasting.

My curls don't always turn out perfectly and sometimes need some help. That's where John Frieda Volume Curls 1 1/2” Curling Iron comes in. I either pick strands and curl just those strands and loose then with my fingers to blend in with the rest of my curls or I curl my entire head of hair and break apart, pull too loosen and lightly brush through.

What do you think of this Simple & Sweet Makeup Look I achieved in 10 minutes? What are your favorite products for a quick and simple makeup look?

Makeup Looks with Rimmel London: Retro Glam

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser #BeautyInspiration #CollectiveBias
Rimmel London has some fabulous makeup items which you can use to create that perfect makeup look whether it be prom make up, make up for work, or make up for a casual night out with friends. They really have a wide array of products you can use to create a variety of different looks. Today I'm going to show you a Rimmel makeup tutorial on how to create a retro glam look. These products are widely available and can be found at your local Walmart. Keep reading my blog post tutorial to find out the steps I took and the products I used to create this look.

You can also check out my Instagram Video Tutorial here:

I've been a fan of Rimmel primers ever since I tried Rimmel Fix and Perfect. It created that perfect canvas for my makeup application. I was super excited to try their new Stay Matte Primer. This was the first product I applied. I used about a dime sized amount and spread this evenly on my face with my fingers. This minimizes pores and controls shine for 8 hours. My second step was to apply Rimmel's new Stay Matte Foundation. This is a really light oil free formula that does not feel heavy or greasy on the skin. It controls shine all day long and blends into your skin for a natural looking matte finish.

I then applied Rimmel's Stay Matte pressed powder to set my foundation. This product uses natural minerals to provide 5 hours of shine free coverage. Finally, I used the Match perfection blush for a subtle natural pop of color on my cheeks. I added some Rimmel Natural Bronzer with a fluffy kabuki brush all over my face for a light touch of color. I applied a more concentrated amount into the hollows of my cheeks for some contouring.

My next area of focus was my eyes. I am a huge fan of eyeshadows and creating different looks. Since I was going for a retro glam look and I knew I was going to do a bold red lip, I wanted to pair it with a more neutral lid. I used Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Bulletproof Beige. This is one of my favorite neutral eyeshadow products in my collection. It's super easy and quick to apply and it does have great staying power. This created a slightly shimmery gorgeous neutral beige lid to build off of. To add a little bit of color and to bring out my green eyes, I added Rimmel Scandaleyes in Bad Girl Bronze. I added this right to the center of my lids and then I blended out with my fingers.

I used my Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal liner in Shimmering Back to line my lower lash line and upper lash line. I created a small wing on the upper lash line for a touch of drama on the eyes. Last but not least, I applied Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara for a bold wide-eyed false lash look. This hour glass shaped brush has traditional bristles that make it easy to reach each and every lash without clumping at a very retro price.

To tie the look together, I  next focused on my lip color. I had planned on doing a bold red lip and when I came up with this look I knew instantly that my Lasting Finish lipstick by Kate Moss in 01 would be perfect. This provides a bold red lip color that is sure to get you noticed yet is still a wearable color that would be suitable for many different looks and skin tones.

Kate Moss Lasting Finish 01

For hair, I knew I wanted to do a curl which was loosely pinned to one side. I have naturally curly hair, but I used my curling iron and fingers to create some larger curls. I swept my hair to one side so it laid mainly on one shoulder. I put a bobby pin  in the opposite side to keep my hair going in the direction I wanted it to. I then pinned a small piece of hair back loosely on the side my hair laid on. I felt this added to the retro glam look by pairing some more dramatic pieces in with a classic look.

My thoughts:
I think some of the colors are worth the $19 price tag whereas personally I probably wouldn't spend that money just for a neutral glittery gloss. I'm more of a lipstick wearer than a gloss wearer because I do want that pigmented color and I'm not as big of a fan of a glossy look. Some of the glosses had a more noticeable vanilla scent whereas others I could barely smell it and the gloss had more of just a plain gloss type smell.

These do have a slightly sticky and tacky feel to them. It's nothing that was too irritating to me, but if you don't like a gloss that is sticky at all, you may not like these. You can definitely tell that you have something on your lips, but they aren't uncomfortable to wear. As the gloss wears, you can still feel a slight stickiness on your lips. Some of the more opaque matte shades did a better job at minimizing the lines on my lips whereas some of the more sheer and glittery shades made them noticeable. The staying power was pretty good for a gloss, around 4 hours or so.

My personal favorite color is True Love which is a gorgeous pure red color with amazing pigmentation, especially for a gloss. If I had to pick just one color out of this collection, that is the one that I'd pick. I think it's a red that would be flattering on a lot of women and it's definitely worth the price tag. My second pick would be Blushing Bride as it is just such a nice wearable everyday neutral. I like that this is more opaque than some of the other neutral colors and that it doesn't have glitter in it. A lot of it is just a personal preference in color, pigmentation and finish. I really don't think you can go too wrong with any of these colors as I found all of them to be flattering. While these aren't my favorite of the entire line of Tarte products as I'm more of a fan of lipstick like products like the LipSurgence Power Pigments, I was not disappointed overall with these in the gloss category. I think gloss fans will probably delight in this collection.

If you haven't checked out my review on the cheek stains and power pigment lipsurgences, you can do so here. True Love was also one of my favorites of that bunch. Tarte had such a great Spring collection and I'm so excited they've extended that greatness to their Summer collection. Stay tuned as I'll be bringing you more thoughts and reviews on some Tarte Summer 2014 products!

Orchid, True Red, Hot Pink

Orchid, Hot Pink, True Red

My thoughts on the LORAC Lip Luxe Lip Colors:
These provide really pigmented color that is easy to apply. When first applied, they really do feel moisturizing on your lips. The first few times I wore the colors, they really did last all day. I noticed uneven fading but that wasn't until the end of the day and it was much slighter than other products I've tried.

This leaves a slight subtle stain on your lips. I did notice towards the end of the day, my lips could use a little extra moisture so I'd recommend a clear balm or gloss as the day goes on. I'm really impressed with the color selection, pigmentation and long wearing qualities of these lip products. They're actually reasonably priced for a higher end brand at $16 and I think you'll well get your money's worth. Of course as I'm obsessed with purple right now, Orchid is my favorite and I've been wearing it nearly every day!

What do you think of these lip products? Which is your favorite color? Comment and let me know, I'd love to hear from you!
