Great Love with YES TO Carrots

I've teamed up with YES TO Carrots to share some of my great loves! One of my newest loves is the new YES TO Carrots Fragrance Free collection. This is a great line for anyone who wants the quality natural skincare without any of the fragrance. I have a lot of allergies and I'm sensitive to scents, so this was a perfect fit for me.

YES TO has inspired me with their new collection to share the great loves of my life. I'm very lucky to be surrounded by great family and friends and to live in a great town, all of which are the great loves of my life. I like February because it is a short month and it means Spring is just around the corner, but I also love seeing celebrations of love everywhere this month.Thank you to YES TO for sponsoring this post, inspiring me to share my great loves and nourishing my skin naturally!

I love babies, yes I do! I hope to be a parent at some point later in my life, but in the meantime, I have a large family with a lot of babies around! I think there are 20 children under 8 right now, it's hard to keep track! Babies just make you automatically smile and cherish the little things in life. The beauty above is my niece who I just can't get enough of.

Probably the greatest love of my life right now is my family. I'm very blessed to have a large close knit family. I have two cousins within a year of my age who are pretty much like sisters to me. I grew up with my grandparents one block away from me and my aunt and uncle another block away from me. It was amazing to have 3 families within 3 blocks for much of my life. My grandma had passed away recently and I miss her a ton. Family was the great love of her life as well. She had six children and twenty great grandchildren and was an amazing role model to us all. She served as my confirmation sponsor and picking her was a no brainer since she always was a model of how to live life graciously.

Another great love is the town I live in. I love living where I do which is situated between bluffs and the Mississippi river. I'm lucky enough to come home to gorgeous sunsets like this daily. After a rough day at work, I feel blessed to come home to this sight. It gives me pause and makes me remember there are other things in this world and to take a minute to enjoy them.

My last great love I wanted to share with you is nature. I love going for walks and exploring the beautiful area I'm in. I can't get enough of it when it's nice out. It was in the 40's today and sunny which felt amazing and I was able to take a walk outside. Taking some time to relax and enjoy nature can really give you some peace and perspective in life.

To celebrate the inspiration of great love in our lives, SAY YES is also running a great giveaway! They're giving away 500 of their new YES TO Carrots Fragrance Free wipes. Enter now!

Tarte Colored Clay CC Primer {Review}

I'm always looking for new primers/cc creams/foundation type products. I have fair skin with redness issues so I'm always looking for that perfect amount of natural coverage. I want something that is going to even out my skin tone without feeling heavy on the skin or looking like I've got make up on! So I was very excited to get the chance to test out Tarte's new Colored Clay CC Primer and review it for you all!
Contains Press Sample

This powerful, multi-tasking, skin perfector brightens skin, evens skin tone, blurs imperfections and neutralizes any redness or discolorations. The oil-free, talc-free formula soothes skin as it glides and blends effortlessly for a smooth, even finish. Its "hourglass" applicator design delivers the perfect balance of color correction and coverage to adjust to your skin. Use it before foundation as a color-correcting primer or alone as a light coverage for an all-over flawless look. Available at, Sephora and Ulta, Retails for $34.

Powered By:
colored clay: specifically addresses individual skin & complexion concerns
- purple clay: brightens dull, lackluster skin
- green clay: neutralizes skin redness

My thoughts:
  • This is definitely easy to use in stick form. I swipe 1-2 swipes on each cheek, one on my forehead, 1 on my chin and 1 around my nose. I then use a stiff blending brush to blend the product into my face.
  • This provides a good amount of coverage for me that I've been wearing it basically as my foundation. I then top with a finishing powder.
  • For darker circles and blemishes, I do have to use a concealer along with this product.
  • I noticed the green clay in this product definitely helps with the redness and discoloration to my skin.
  • I also thought my skin did appear brighter which is a feature of the purple clay which is included.
  • The only issues I had with this product is that it can seem to cling to dry skin and appear a little cakey. I had this issue the first time I used this product and it definitely made some dry skin and imperfections look more noticeable. The solution I found was to ensure my face is properly moisturized and to also only apply a little of the product.
  • I found when I used less of the product and I blended it in really well, I didn't have the same appearance issues as when I had applied more product. So, I definitely recommend using it that way when trying it out.
  • The feeling on the skin is just great. It really smooths out my skin and makes it feel baby soft and is a lightweight product. It won't feel like you have anything on your face.
  • My color was fair. In most lines, I would have been a light as I'm usually the 2nd lightest shade, but in comparing the two colors, light seemed too dark for me so I'm glad I chose fair. It was a good match for my skin tone. There are five total color selections.
  • Overall, I really liked this product. I love that I can basically skip foundation and just apply powder with this.
Preview: In the photo below is a finished look using the CC Primer along with LipSurgence Power Pigment and Cheek Stain in tipsy. I will be reviewing these in full shortly, so stay tuned!

What do you think of the results I got with the Tarte Colored Clay CC Primer? Is this a product that appeals to you?

Priti NYC's Black Hole Collection for Winter 2014

Priti NYC is a 5 free vegan, non-toxic nail polish. I absolutely love that about this line and I love the adorable design on their polishes. There hasn't been a color I've tried which I've been disappointed with. The Black Hole Collection is a collection from Priti NYC for winter 2014, which brings us some gorgeous variations of black and dark shades of polish. I'm normally a gal that reaches for brighter and lighter shades, but I absolutely fell in love with the polishes in this line. My favorite is probably Black Hollycock. I love it because it allows me to wear black polish but with the rainbow glitter, it makes it fun and appropriate for numerous situations.

693 - Midnight Blue Gerber, blue sparkle glitter
691 - Black Hollycock, black with rainbow glitter
690 - Green Wizard Rudbeckia, black and gold glitter with gold flecks
692 - Black Mondoblack purple shimmer

Weightloss Journey Phase III: Completed

Wow, I can hardly believe I'm 75% through my first year of my weight loss journey which I started in April. I am disappointed with my total weight loss, but what I'm not disappointed with is that I'm still doing this and I'm still motivated. I'm still making progress towards a life long goal and that's what matters.

Check out my other posts and see where I started:
Weightloss Phase I: End of April through end of July (16 pounds lost)
Weightloss Phase II: End of July through end of October (8 pounds lost)
Weightloss Phase III: End of October - end of January (0 pounds lost)

My goals for Phase III were:
1800 calories per day, 6-10K steps per day, 10K steps per day at least twice a week, 2 pounds lost per week, workout 3-5 days per week, continue with clean eating, increase organic eating to 80% total organic, continue to phase out all genetically modified foods.

What actually happened in Phase III:
So I've really strayed from those goals. Winter has been a major challenge for me and I've fallen off the wagon with working out. Although I did work out on Sunday, so I'm hoping that is the start of jumping back into walking and lifting weights. I don't want to make excuses, but this winter I have been very sedentary and just can't seem to care to move or work out. I'm sincerely feeling like once the weather gets better, I will be going outside and getting right back onto my walking track around the Mississippi River.

I have stopped counting calories and tracking my food through My Fitness Pal as well. I was so focused on tracking food the first 6 months, I can tell not doing this has had a negative impact. That coupled with not working out has resulted in no weight loss, but a maintenance phase. It is my goal for Phase 4 to start tracking food and working out again and pushing myself to get to 10,000 steps on my Fitbit tracker.

Where do I go from here?
I know exactly what I need to do to start losing weight again. I have stuck with clean eating and it's probably the longest I've stuck with any "plan". Clean eating is basically where you only eat real whole natural foods, nothing with ingredients you can't pronounce, limit ingredients to under 10, preferably under 5, lots of vegetables and fruits, organic non GMO (genetically modified), no processed food, etc. It's been an amazing epiphany I've had with clean eating. I now make a lot of food from scratch like granola and jam and I've actually enjoyed grocery shopping which is a task I use to dread. I've had my cheat moments, but overall I've stuck with clean eating and I'm eating more and more organic.

People who I haven't seen in a month or two continuously comment on how great I'm looking and notice that I've lost weight (even though I haven't these past 3 months). Clean eating can really transform your body and I notice a lot of the puffiness I had before is gone. Even though I may not be dropping pounds left and right, my body is still being transformed. My skin is considerably better, my eyes are brighter and my nails are stronger. Overall I'm feeling much better.

February 2014

Final thoughts:
I really want to round out this year with an amazing Phase 4. I hope to get back to tracking food and working out. I'm praying for warmer nicer weather to come as soon as possible. I'm thinking of upcoming Spring and Summer and picturing the clothing I want to wear and the way I want to be looking. Another motivation for me is seeing constant testimonials about Advocare, Plexus, and other dieting gimmicks on my facebook page. I want to end Phase 4 with a bang and add my own Clean Eating "testimonial" of how eating real food not chemicals is what transforms your health and body. I think the only way to truly make this change for life is through Clean Eating and exercise. Others may be getting quicker results, but mine will last a lifetime.

Thanks for your support this year so far. I look forward to updating you again in April.

This three piece set contains a Eau de Parfum, Mini Candelina and first-ever  Bubble Bath in the Florence fragrance.

Its luxurious refillable case is delicately decorated with metallic gold in Tocca’s iconic bird design. Retails for $68 (a $110 value). Tips to Restore and Whiten a Christening Dress

How To:
Restore a Christening Gown

A baby's baptism gown or christening gown can really hold some special significance and meaning. You may even have your gown or the gown of a family member. It becomes even more special when that gown can be passed along through the generations. It may not look great when first taking it out of storage, but I've got some simple easy tips for you on how to whiten and restore a vintage or antique christening gown!

1. Whiten the gown
Soak the gown for four hours in a product called BIZ which is a stain & odor eliminator. You can find this at Target. Use a 1/2 cup of BIZ and 1/2 cup of Dawn Pure Essentials with 4-6 gallons of water depending on the size of the gown. The water should be room temperature. Rinse it until there is no soap coming out, approximately three or four times. Dip the dress until the water is clear. Do not ring the gown. Hang up the gown dripping wet in a shower or basement.

2. Iron
After the dress is dry, carefully iron the dress on a low heat. Be sure to look at the label on the gown to check what material the dress is and set your iron temperature accordingly. Test it out on a small piece which wouldn't be as visible. Put a new cover on you ironing board or use a towel or clean sheet so there is no transfer onto the dress. Stuff the dress with tissue paper so it hangs right.

3. Pay attention to detail
Cut off any frayed ribbons or simply replace the ribbon or add something new.

4. Store correctly
After the gown has been used, store in an acid free environment with acid free tissue paper.

So there you have it, four easy steps to restore that vintage christening gown and this truly becomes a dress that can be worn again, generation after generation!! A special thanks to my gorgeous beautiful niece, wonderful sister in law and my mother for doing all the work. :)

Valentine's Prep from Head to Toe

Today I'm going to be sharing with you my top ten Valentine's day prep products. These are the products that will get your skin and hair looking fantastic for that special day. I'll be following up on this post then with my top 10 makeup picks after your skin and hair are prepped and ready!
Contains some press samples
Unite Moisturizing Conditioner is packed with incredible vitalizing and nourishing qualities to radiate your natural health and shine. So moisturizing you'll think it was sourced from the fountain of youth! This great smelling light weight conditioner will revitalize add moisture, repair hair and improve the health and shine this Valentine's Day.
Ouidad Mongongo Oil is one of my newest favorite hair products. It is a super concentrated multi-tasking serum which is infused with "hair food" known as Mongongo oil. When my hair was severely dry and damaged, where other oils failed, this one lived up to it's claims. This will restructure hair and repair to improve it's appearance. This noticeably smooths my locks and makes the ends appear more moisturized and healthier. Also great for protection from heat styling!
Veria ID Hydrating Toner is a pure infusion of moisture for naturally dry skin which includes Coconut and Sugar Cane to refresh, soothe and hydrate. I use this nearly every day and spritz a few sprays on my face before applying moisturizer or just as a refresher throughout the day. It's definitely helped my skin with some much needed moisture on these blistering cold days. The scent is natural and uplfiting with a 100% natural fragrance blend: Organic Vanilla Oleoresin, Vanillin Natural, Ginger, Cardamom, Clove and Orange Oil Extracts and other essential oils.

Noira Alpha Clear Cleanser
This is Step 1 of Noira's Adult Acne Treatment. I've been using this product when I feel some breakouts coming on or to clear out some existing blemishes. I love the creamy feel to this cleanser and the fact that it is not irritating at all. A lot of other acne treatments have been a little harsh for my sensitive skin, but this does the job while remaining gentle. A definite must have for clear skin on Valentine's day! This is also vegan, cruelty free, and uses natural, organic and sustainable ingredients.
L'Occitane Divine Cream is probably one of my favorite face creams of all time. This super thick creamy face lotion is a god send. Although it has a thicker feel, it goes on feeling really lightweight and is super moisturizing. It also has a refreshing light scent to it.  My skin just soaks this wonderful product up. This contains  unique anti-aging properties of everlasting immortelle flowers with the boosted effectiveness of 7 plant-derived active ingredients. This is love baby.

LUSH Cosmetic's Rub Rub Rub
Rub Rub Rub is a bit of a variation on the normal shower gel. For one, it’s so thick we put it into a tub for handy scooping in the shower. Secondly, it’s a bright blue, supremely softening, exfoliating sea salt shower scrub to revive your skin. Sea salt is extra cleansing, mineral-rich and softening for the body; you can even use it as a shampoo in a pinch! The scent is refreshing with a dash of lemon juice and the tropical scent of mimosa blossoms for a light, blossom-scented wash and smoother skin. This will leave your skin touchably soft, silky, and smelling great.

Mama Mio's The Activist is firming active body oil for dry skin which you can use to feel confident and ready for romance this Valentine's day. This firms and strengthens dry skin with vitamins and antioxidants. This comes out in typical oil form with a lighter scent. Apply after you've showered to lock in extra moisture.
Laura Mercier Creme Brulee Body Butter is the ideal product to apply after Mama Mio's activist oil has settled in. For some extra pampering, I like to take this extra step especially for a date night. This rich body butter which contains Grape Seed Oil and Jojoba is thick to the touch but amazingly sinks in beautifully.  The best part -it smells like a baked vanilla sugar cookie.

LUSH Silky Underwear Dusting Powder
Silky Underwear was the first dusting powder that LUSH ever created, and it remains the smoothest, most luxurious and best-selling powder they make. This contains grated cocoa butter which melts into your skin with a sexy jasmine scent. This is great when you're in a hurry and don't have time to use a body scrub, oil and lotion. It will leave your skin baby soft. This is one of my recent favorite body product that I've been using a ton.

L'Occitane Shea Butter Foot Cream is the perfect prescription for relief and well-being. You definitely don't want to forget about your feet for Valentine's Day! This cream contains antiseptic A.O.C. lavender essential oil to purify, anti-inflammatory arnica extract to help reduce redness and irritation, hints of refreshing mint and 15% shea butter.

So there you have it, all my favorite picks to get your body Valentine's Day ready from head to toe. I like doing these kinds of posts because I can truly recommend all the products I have been using and which I will be using. There isn't a dud on this list and I think you'd be happy with any of the selections. I hope your Valentine's Day is happy, healthy and most important that you look radiant from head to toe :)

Foodie Friday: Valentine's Edition

Berry Yogurt Delight for Valentine's Day

Valentine's day is coming up and you may be thinking about your plans. Are you going to go out to eat, have a night out on the town or make a special dinner at home? Today I'm going to be sharing with you an absolutely delicious yet healthy desert. I love treating myself time to time, but also still keeping it clean with wholesome foods.

What you will need:
Plain yogurt

I made this simple desert by using Stonyfield plain organic yogurt, topped with blackberries and raspberries. Since it's expensive to buy organic fruit off season, I wash my fruit that is prone to higher pesticide reside in a mixture of water, baking soda and vinegar. I then added some homemade granola (oats, flax seed, honey, cinnamon, dried blueberries, almonds, natural peanut butter, unsweetened coconut, sunflower seeds).

I used a recipe I found from Fitnessquinci's Instagram but varied it slightly. It's super easy to make, you basically just mix all the ingredients and bake! I find store bought granola contains a lot of extra unneeded sugar and usually has some sort of oil, usually soy which has likely been genetically modified. This way, you control exactly what goes into your food.

I simply sprinkle some cinnamon over and drizzle some local honey. This will not feel like a healthy treat at all. It tastes super indulgent and is really satisfying and filling. Chocolates are always great for Valentines, but so is a yummy healthy treat which won't leave you with regret after! So eat up and be healthy and happy. :)
