Wet n Wild Fergie Vicious Varnish High Shine Lip Stain {Review}

The new Wet n Wild Fergie High Shine Lip Stains had caught my eyes a couple weeks ago at the drugstore, but I didn't pick up any then. This time around, my eyes were drawn to the gloss stains again. I couldn't resist picking up a couple of the most vibrant shades. I purchased Throwing Shade and Epic. Throwing Shade is a gorgeous vivid orchid shade and Epic is a deep berry perfect for winter. I'm a huge lover of a bold bright lip, especially during dark winter days and I was intrigued by the stain gloss formulation. These retail around $3.50

Throwing Shade
Epic

Throwing shade
Epic
What I liked:
  • Gorgeous pigmented colors with a decent color selection
  • This does leave a stain. Overall staying power for me was around 4 hours. The stain was more noticeable in person than on the 4 hour photo, but my lips were still stained at that point.
  • Affordable price.
  • High shine.
What I didn't like:
  • I had a really weird clumping of product with Epic as can be seen in the photo above after 2 hours of wear. I just used my finger to even this out and it was fine, but makes me skeptical to wear it anywhere I can't be checking the mirror frequently! I also had this with Throwing Shade, although it wasn't as noticeable. Perhaps I used too much product, but it's hard not to with the applicator and formula.
  • I would prefer a more traditional doe foot applicator. The long thin applicator may have worked for the bottom lip, but it made precise application on the upper lip a little harder. The brush was also very flexible which for me was not a plus as it bent too much during application.
  • The texture at first is gooey. You can see that in the photo of the applicator that this really is a thick formula. It applies thick and feels sticky and gooey at first. Once it fades and a stain is left, it becomes more comfortable.
  • Although there was a high shine, the shine lasted about 1 hour and was coupled with the icky texture.
Overall, I can say that I don't regret my purchase, however,  I will also not be picking up more colors from this line. Although the pigmented brights shades for me were spot on, there were too many issues with the brush, application and texture. If you're looking for the pigmentation without the other issues, I highly recommend checking out Fergie's Perfect Pout Lip Color line, especially the color Fuchsianista.

Perfect Flush for Valentine's Day with it Cosmetics Sweet Cheeks

Are you looking for that perfect blush to give you the perfect flush for Valentine's day? I've been testing out just that perfect blush for you. It is it Cosmetic's Anti-Aging Airblush Blush Stain in Sweet Cheeks, which is that perfect universal light pink shade. This set comes with a angeled blush brush for perfect application. This really is a great blush for that romantic night out, a night out with the girls or for that polished and put together look for work.

Press Sample
What is it: An airbrush silk cheek stain infused into a powder. Developed with plastic surgeons, this hydrating, brightening, and antiaging blush gives a naturally pretty flush of color to the cheeks and lasts until you take it off. The truly innovative formula contains ingredients and antioxidants that hydrate, condition, and nourish your skin. Retails $32. Set available at QVC.com or individually at itCosmetics.com.

About: The cutting-edge, long-wearing, silk powder stain is talc-free so it never clings to fine lines and wrinkles, plus it gives you that glow of a stain. This super-fine airbrush blush stain helps skin with anti-aging benefits and gives that perfect touch of vitality while blurring the look of imperfections. The formula is developed without parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, and phthalates. .23 oz, universal matte peachy-pink shade.
How to apply: Using the included Luxe French Boutique Blush Brush, lightly dust over the apples of your cheeks using light, upward sweeping motions. Just the lightest touch of this blush provides a gorgeous flush of color that lasts. For more intense color, apply a second dusting.
My final thoughts:
  • I love how unique the concept is since this is the only stain blush that comes in powder form.
  • With some loose powder blushes, they can be a little trickier to apply and to get the perfect amount of product. It can be easy to overdo it. However, with this product I really didn't have that problem at all. It would be really hard to mess this up!
  • I would tap the product into the cap until there was a small amount in the cap. I would then swirl the product into the brush. I found that application was really easy because the brush works so well with picking up the product and applying it evenly.
  • This really did provide a soft natural look.
  • I found wear to really last all day.
  • I have fair skin, but I think this would work for most skin types and ages. It is matte so there was no shimmer or glitter to contend with. I thought it applied evenly and nicely onto my skin and didn't highlight any imperfections.
  • I've been using this daily and really loving it.
  • The brush that is included is absolutely gorgeous and feels really well made. The bristles are soft and easy to work with. This is a cruelty free brush which alone would retail for $34.50. The blush alone would retail for $24, so you're getting a great deal with this set!
  • I would definitely recommend this set to anyone looking for that perfect natural flush, whatever the day or occasion.

Cosmetic bag with mirror

Star Plum

This set includes an adorable cosmetics bag, perfectly fitting for Valentine's day! This also contains a small mirror for easy application on the go!

My thoughts:
  • This contains a nice selection of wearable colors. Mauve is the easiest color to wear and Bitten would be the more tricky color for some to wear. Overall, I think the average woman would get a lot of wear out of this set.
  • I found application to be good, especially with Fig, Mauve and Plum. Bitten which is a sparkly red, I did notice some unevenness in appearance.
  • These felt really moisturizing on the lips.
  • This really is a great deal at $30 since you get 4 full size products which retail at over $15 alone, plus the travel size is still really good amount of product at .17 oz.
  • Available at QVC.com

Bright Pink Saturday with Bite Beauty

With the freezing cold temperatures and drudgery of a seemingly never ending winter, I've really been looking to brighten up my days. One of the easiest ways to do that is to pair a really vibrant lip with a neutral eye. I thought I'd share with you the look I created today as well as one of my new favorite bright pink lipstick colors. That product is Bite Beauty's Corvina. Keep reading for swatches and my full review!

About Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil:
Made with a double-dose of premium micronized pigments, this lip pencil delivers a modern matte look. This lip color delivers super antioxidant resveratrol, which fights free radicals with potent long-term antiaging benefits. Each lip pencil contains the amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine.

What it is formulated without:
- Parabens - Sulfates - Synthetic Fragrances - Synthetic Dyes - Petrochemicals - Phthalates
- GMOs - Triclosan

I haven't tried a lot of Bite Beauty products, but the ones I have tried I've been really impressed with. The lip products I've tried have been gorgeous pigmented colors with easy application and long wearing powers. This product is no exception. Corvina is a matte bright super pigmented coral pink color. It is easy to apply in one application. Since you get such full color, you really only need one layer of this. It isn't super moisturizing and it isn't super drying. If you like products with a little more glossy or moisturizing feel, adding a clear gloss may help with that. The color packs a punch and really lasts for hours. Retails $24

I created my look today by using: Olay CC cream, LORAC Unzipped palette, NYC black liquid liner, Urban Decay Underground liner on lower lash line, Mally Beauty Shape, Shimmer & Glow, it Cosmetics Sweet Cheeks blush, Bite Beauty Corvina, It's So Big mascara by Elizabeth Mott

What do you think of this bright pink coral shade from Bite Beauty? Would you wear this? Comment and let me know, I'd love to hear what you favorite Bite Beauty product is so I can try it out as well!

LUSH Cosmetics: My Top Picks

Contains some press samples
Have you heard of LUSH Cosmetics? You may have seen a store at your local mall and wondered what it is all about. Come join me on a tour of their store as I reveal my top product picks! LUSH Cosmetics is a unique brand because they have a lot of vegan and vegetarian cosmetics, skincare and haircare options. Their products are extremely fresh, handmade and preservatives are used sparingly. They are a cruelty free brand and do not test on animals.

First walking into a LUSH store can be overwhelming. There are so many unique products (around 300 products!) that you have probably never seen before. They have products such as solid toothpaste, solid conditioner and face cleansers in roll form. It can be an exciting discovery, but you can also feel a little lost with all of the choices and unique products. Their staff is extremely friendly and there to help! A lot of the products are available to be tested out in stores, so don't hesitate to ask questions!

That's why I'm here, to help you navigate through LUSH to find the perfect products for you and yours!

Based on the products that I've tested out and what has been recommended to me for normal to dry skin, here are my top product picks from LUSH Cosmetics.

Best Face Masks  (normal to dry skin)
Love Lettuce:  A lavender and almond love letter to dull, flaky skin
The Sacred Truth: Packed full of essential ingredients for aging skin

Best Body Scrubs
Ocean Salt: salt scrub for a glowing complexion
Rub Rub Rub: Incredibly softening, blossom-scented salt scrub

Best for a Princess:
I got the Magic Wand which is a pink reusable wand in the shape of a star for two nieces to use in the bath and they absolutely love it and were telling their parents that I got them "bubbles for the bath!"
The Snow Fairy Shower Gel (seasonal) or Godmother Soap (candy scented and magical) are also some great picks!

Top: Aqua Marina (Seaweed and calamine cleanser for sensitive faces), Let The Good Times Roll (all skin types)
Middle: Dark Angels (charcoal cleanser for dull oily skin)

Best Cleanser:
Angels on Bare Skin: The kaolin clay base deep cleanses while ground almonds gently exfoliate the dead skin away. Rose and lavender are added to soothe and help balance out combination skin.

Best Body Conditioner:
Ro's Argan Body Conditioner is a skin conditioner full of nourshing butters and topped off with the addictive Rose Jam fragrance. Since Rose Jam is one of my favorite scents from LUSH, I love that this thick and creamy conditioner incorporates it. It's a must have in any beauty routine!

Best for Valentine's Day:
Silky Underwear Dusting Powder: This lightweight powder is jasmine scented with added cocoa butter to dust over your skin, leaving it soft, smooth and seriously sexy. I use this as my last step after a luxurious bath with Rose Jam and Ro's Argan Body Conditioner. I use this when my skin has just barely dried. I lightly dust this on my arms and legs and rub it in. It soaks in right away, doesn't really make a mess when applied over carpet and leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft and smelling great. This has a light scent which isn't overpowering and compliments the Rose Jam scent well.

Best Fragrances
Rose Jam: Rose Jam is based on a decadent traditional Turkish recipe for rose jam that our Turkish rose absolute supplier shares with us every year, and is made with our sophisticated new rose perfume. Rose oil and rose absolute not only smell amazing but they are also fantastic for soothing dry, sensitive skin. The rosy fragrance paired with the coconut oil “icing” that sticks the two halves of this Bubbleroon together make for a majorly moisturizing, softening and luxurious soak.

Let the Good Times Roll: A luxuriously soft and sweetly-scented cleanser, Let The Good Times Roll is made with maize flour and corn meal to gently exfoliate, and a dash of cinnamon powder to cleanse and warm cold winter skin. Its rich, velvety texture leaves your skin perfectly balanced, glowing and smelling like sweet and salted caramel corn.

Best Facial Cleansing Roll
Let the Good Times Roll: Polenta cleanser. Warming, soothing and softening on all skin types. This smells like a cookie! So wonderful.

There are so many bath bomb options and one is even more gorgeous than the other!

Best Fair Trade:
Vanilla: rich, sweet vanilla-caramel scent. Try out the Vanillary Perfume Gift set for starters!

Best Toner:
Eau Roma Water: Rose water toner for mature, sensitive or dry skin. Spray a couple sprays of this refreshing toner on your skin before applying your moisturizer.

So there you have it, the tip of the iceberg for some of my top LUSH Cosmetics picks. Again, the face product picks are in general for normal skin. As it can be overwhelming at first with all the products available, I highly recommend asking questions of the great staff and testing out products in store! You will leave with some great picks and your hands will feel softer than ever! I hope to bring you even more LUSH product reviews and recommendations in the future. Leave me a comment and let me know which LUSH product is your favorite or which from my list you'd most love to try!

*Since LUSH does use fresh ingredients, you want to be sure to check the clearly marked labels for allergens, including dairy, nuts, eggs and flowers/grass. I do have sensitive skin and outdoor allergies and had minor issues with a couple of products, but no one else that used them at family spa night had any issues.

Best Shimmery Neutral Eyeshadow Picks

Shimmery Eyeshadows

I love color, drama and experimentation with eyeshadow looks. But that also takes some time and patience. During the week, I'm usually in such a hurry to get out of the house and to the office that I really need a simple 10 minute makeup routine. In order to create a professional look, but still have something that makes me feel good, I've really come to love some shadows. I've picked my favorite shimmery neutral shadows for you. I picked these by thinking about what ends up on my vanity time after time, which products I've used the most of and which have great staying power to last the whole day. It wasn't as hard to narrow down as I thought as I think I've really gotten a good routine down and I've tried so many products that I know when I've got a winner! Keep reading to see my top picks!

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Bulletproof Beige
I like this color because it is in a stick form which makes it easy to apply when you're in a hurry. I do usually use a primer with this as it can crease a little bit. I still reach for this a lot and it is a really great basic beige color that you can't go wrong with.

L to R: Mufe #16, Rimmel Bulletproof Beige

Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream 16: Pink Beige
I'm about 3/4 done with this cream shadow and that says a lot since I have so many eyeshadows. This is hands down the shadow that I wear the most. I wear this when I still want a professional neutral look but I also want a little bit of pop and shimmer. This pairs well with green eyes and it is truly crease proof. This has amazing lasting power!

L to R
Maybelline Barely Branded, Urban Decay Dust, Urban Decay Buzz, Urban Decay YDK, Urban Decay Sin, Stila Kitten Smudgepot, Stila Kitten powder

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded
I've probably mentioned this shadow 50 times because I love it so much. It's probably the second most used shade that I have and retails for only around $6. A jar of this cream shadow is going to last you a very long time as you just need a little swipe. You can build up the color with another shade as well. This works fantastic as a base for other shadows or it works as a great standalone shade to brighten up your eye area. Also, the staying power is fantastic and I never have creasing.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Dust and Buzz
This is probably my most favorite palette of the moment as I love neutrals, pinks and rose golds. There are two shades that really stand out to me in this palette which could be worn alone any day of the week and those are Dust and Buzz.  Dust is a shimmery lighter pink which is described as a pale metallic pink shimmer w/iridescent micro-glitter and Buzz is a deeper shade that is described as metallic rose shimmer w/silver micro-glitter.

Urban Decay YDK (single shade or found in Naked 2)
This is a taupe shaded neutral that packs some major shimmer. It is described as a cool bronze. Out of the Naked 2 palette, this is the shade that clearly has been used the most. I just can't get enough of it.

Urban Decay Sin
This is just one of those gorgeous neutral shimmery shades that you can't help but fall in love with. You could top this over the Barely Branded shade or wear alone. This has more shimmer to it, so I wear it when I want a little more noticeable look. Staying true to Urban Decay shades, this is creamy and applies gorgeously and has good staying power. I'd say this is one of the must have shades from Urban Decay.

Stila Kitten
This signature color from Stila is a nice soft shimmery beige neutral. I have this is the smudgepot version which is basically a cream version and the regular powder version. The powder version is definitely creamier and it is easy to apply. It came off a little bit more beige whereas the smudgepot formulation seems to have a touch of pink tones to it. The powder also seemed to have more pigmentation in one swipe. The smudgepot is easy to apply as well if you apply one layer. I like using the smudgepot as a base. This also comes in a lipgloss and is gorgeous!

Which of these is your favorite neutral? If yours isn't listed, comment and let me know what your go to shade is, I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Morning Helpers: My Top Five Quick Product Picks

Getting ready for work in the morning is a race against time for me. I am the opposite of a morning person and so I will sleep in every possible second I can. This leaves me scrambling to get ready for the day and look professional in a matter of 5-10 minutes. I've really gotten a good routine down so that I can actually get my hair and basic makeup done in around ten minutes. So I figured today I would share with you some of my favorite products which make that rush in the morning just a little bit more do-able.

Morning Products
Olay BB Cream Skin Perfecting Tinted Moisturizer with Sunscreen has a really nice texture to it and applies really evenly. Since it is a BB cream and has a little bit less coverage than a foundation, I can really apply it quickly and not have to worry as much about blending this in perfectly. Since it has sunscreen in it, it cuts out some time especially in warmer weather.

Philip Kingsley One More Day Dry Shampoo is a dry shampoo packed full of soothing ingredients such as Zinc PCA, Allantoin and Bisabolol that cleanse the scalp; eradicating excess dirt, oil and odour, whilst helping to keep flakes and irritation at bay. This really helps if I wasn't able to wash my hair the night before. I just spray some in and brush it through and my hair really looks refreshed.

Lancome Artliner is the perfect liquid eyeliner for precision looks. I've tried a lot of liquid liners and the one that I've used nearly every single day for the past couple of years is Lancome's Art Liner in Aubergine. The design of the applicator and handle just make applying liquid liner a breeze.

Bioelements Recovery Serum has a thick consistency to it and a clear appearance. However, when applied to the skin it soaks in almost immediately and leaves skin feeling moisturized. I have needed this so much in the morning since my dry skin has been even dryer lately with the freezing temperatues. In a rush, this cuts down my skincare to just 1 product! This doubles a makeup primer, cutting out yet another product!

Conair 1 1/2 inch curling iron sounds like it would actually add time to my morning routine, but it has been saving my mornings. I usually shower at night and so in the morning my naturally curly hair usually looks like a poodle's. I don't have the time to straighten my hair and if I straighten it at night, I usually spend 10 minutes re-straightening it in the morning. When I reach for my large barrel curling iron however, I can curl some larger sections and then shake out the curls for a loose curled look in little to no time. I'm working on putting together a full post on this, so stay tuned. This has really been my favorite tool in the morning.

Winter Skincare: My Top Picks

Winter Skincare

My top winter skincare picks are:

Laura Mercier Creme Brulee Body Butter
This super rich Body Butter delivers the ultimate in hydrating luxury and absorbs quickly into skin. Shea Butter and Illipe Butter provide rich moisturization, Grape Seed Oil and Jojoba Esters naturally soothe and hydrate while Honey and Aloe Vera Gel help soothe the skin.

This smells amazing. I've probably said that ten times already. It smells like a baked vanilla sugar cookie. What I love most is that this is a thicker body butter but it doesn't feel like one. I normally avoid body butters because they are just too thick and greasy for me. This one has that thicker creamy texture but it soaks into skin like a dream. It becomes the perfect consistency and weight when applied and it really does leave your skin looking soft and the lingering scent will make you feel really pampered.

FusionBeauty LipFusion Clear Balm
Increases the water content of the skin by 6000% in four weeks. Increases/reinforces Natural Moisturizing Factor in the skin. Derived from the Salicornia plant, a coastal plant growing in a salt environment.

I had totally forgotten about this product until my lips were dry, peeling, chapped and bleeding. They were awful. I dug through my drawer of lip products and pulled this out and thought I'd give it a try. I noticed a difference within that day and it only got better from there on out. This seriously helped me with some seriously horrible lip conditions.

Neutrogena Original Hand Cream
Delivers effective relief for dry, chapped hands. This clinically proven, highly concentrated formula rapidly heals dry hands. It noticeably improves the look and feel of your skin. Hands feel soft and smooth after just one application. Long-lasting, Glycerin-rich, Concentrated.

This has a little different look, texture and feel than other lotions. It looks like it would be a little more oily, but when applied to your hands it really soaks in nicely and they aren't left oily or greasy. I've definitely noticed a difference in my nail and cuticle area which gets very dry in the winter. So join me in a 7 day challenge to get your hands and nails back in shape, just tag #NTG7DayChallenge on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook showing us a photo of your 7 day results!

Winter skincare2

L'Occitane Divine Cream
The luxurious, yet miraculously lightweight Divine Cream combines the unique anti-aging properties of everlasting immortelle flowers with the boosted effectiveness of 7 plant-derived active ingredients to give skin the youthful, radiant glow you've always wanted.

This super thick creamy face lotion is a god send. Although it has a thicker feel, it goes on feeling really lightweight and is super moisturizing. It also has a refreshing light scent to it. This is love baby.

Indie Lee Lavender Oil
A hydrating, all-purpose oil designed for face, body, and hair. Formulated with jojoba oil which is closest to the skin's natural sebum and a blend of lavender and chamomile, this quintessential treatment is ideal for nighttime. Ideal for all skin.

Indie Lee has been a favorite of mine for years and her Lavender Oil is probably my favorite product. I love putting a dropper full of this in the bath or just applying it to slightly wet skin after a bath. The natural lavender scent can help with headaches and soothe away stress and the lightweight oil really soaks in all that needed moisture.

I hope this list helps you to keep your skin looking great this winter season. These are by far some of my absolute favorite products to help combat my dry winter skin and they keep me feeling a little more optimistic looking forward to Spring!

Almay Shadow Softies {Review}

When I first saw the new Almay Shadow Softies at Walgreens, I was immediately drawn to them. I loved the cute sleek packaging and new formulation. I really liked the cream powder feel and the color selections. I was able to test out a couple of these sent to me as a klout perk. Continue reading for my review and swatches of Vintage Grape and Smoke Shadow Softies.

About: These light as air whipped powder shadows glide on for a sheer wash of crease free colors with a cushiony soft feel. In 12 shades, 6 mattes and 6 metallics.

Vintage Grape and Smoke

These definitely have a different texture than most eyeshadows. They seem to be a mix between a cream and a powder, although they apply in a powder finish. When you first look at the product, it doesn't look like it would have a different texture. You can place your finger in it and make an indent and it is slightly bouncy and creamy. Almost like the Maybelline bouncy blushes but with less give. They were really silky and creamy to the touch.

The actual color pay off and application of these shadows were however a huge disappointment. The grey "Smoke" shade at least had some color payoff, making it a huge winner in comparison to the purple shimmery "Vintage Grape". Below is the color payoff I could get from three swipes and you can see it's really not much. I found Smoke to apply evenly, but Vintage Grape applied streaky and looked a hot mess. It is a shame because it is a gorgeous shade in the pan. These are the only two shades I've tried, but just from the comparison of these two I would suggest trying out a solid matte shade first. With both I noticed creasing within a short period of time (under an hour) and an oily look to my lids which normally aren't oily.

These are inexpensive at at little over $4, but I'd stick with the basics in this line and use them as a base shade to layer a powder shadow over. If you're into trying new products and love this kind of texture, you may want to give this a try. I would definitely suggest using a primer. If you love vibrant shadows that can act as stand alone shades with great payoff, these will probably be a major pass for you!

Samples received as a klout perk
