Simple Look of the Day

I didn't feel like doing anything particularly spectacular today but of course still wanted to look good. Because I looked and felt so tired, I really wanted to keep it simple. I will show you the products I used to get this complete look. Rather than repeat a lot of product descriptions and reviews I've already done, I will link them below when applicable.

Hair:
  • When wet, I applied 6-7 sprays of the Garnier Miracle Dry Oil for hair, body & face.*
  • When wet, I applied John Frieda's Full Repair Heat Activated Styling Spray and John Frieda's Full Repair Root Lift Foam. I sprayed about 5 sprays of the styling spray into my hair before blow drying. This really makes a difference in how my hair looks after heat is applied and is a must to keep my color treated locks looking good. I've been using this nearly 100% of the time I use heat and love it. I then pumped 1 pump of the foam into my hands and worked into the root area with my fingers. This gives my hair some great volume and is super easy to use.
  • I then sprayed John Frieda's Luxurious Volume All Day Hold Hairspray ($5.99) as seen below. This was also one of the products used on Adele at the Oscars to get her voluminous look! This has been my fave hairspray to pair with the full repair heat style and root lift foam. I applied this mainly after blow drying and a few quick sprays before leaving the house.
  • I applied 1/2 of a pump of Marco Pelusi Leave In Conditioner to smooth away any pesky fly aways.

 Skin:
  • Last night I used the Wei Beauty Purifying Mud Mask. Review to follow soon.
  • I also applied some of the Garnier Miracle dry oil onto my skin before bed.*
  • This morning I used Specific Beauty Daily Hydrating lotion and applied Rimmel's Fix and Perfect Primer over.
Makeup:
  • Foundation is Prescriptive's Custom Blend
  • Finishing powder is Palladio Rice Powder
  • Blush is Physician's Formula Sexy Booster blush in Rose
  • Highlight is Benefit's High Beam
  • Brows are filled in with Billion Dollar Brows
  • Eyeshadow is Maybelline Color Tattoo Barely Branded
  • Mascara is Benefit Badgal
  • Eyeliner is Lancome art liner liquid liner on top lash line in Aubergine with Sephora jumbo liner in olive in outer V area and lower lash line along with white Urban Decay liner in the inner V area.
  • Lips are Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie
What do you think of my simple look of the day? I think sometimes when you're not feeling great or wake up feeling extra tired (because of a 4am involuntary bedtime), its best to keep your makeup light and simple. Don't forget to check out the two giveaways I'm currently running. They're not to be missed!

Product of the Day: L’Occitane’s Immortelle Brightening Mist

 L’Occitane’s Immortelle Brightening Mist
* limited edition
3.4oz, $20
About: The NEW Immortelle Brightening Mist is an alcohol-free mist that refreshes, softens and brightens the complexion. Also perfect for spraying over make-up to help it stay fixed all day! It combines the unique properties of Immortelle essential oil with Bellis Perennis to keep skin young-looking, radiant and even-toned. The Immortelle breathes youth visibly into the skin, helping to correct wrinkles while the Bellis Perennis acts to help visibly reduce the appearance of pigmentation marks. Launched February 20th.

My thoughts:
  • I've been using this daily for a couple weeks and I'm really a fan of this. I keep this on my kitchen counter as I use it throughout the day.
  • This has a nice light refreshing scent and makes me feel refreshed and just all over better
  • I recently reviewed a Clark's Botanicals spray which is the same concept. However, I like this spray better at it is $20 for 3.4fl oz as opposed to Clark's which was $45 for 1fl oz which I ran through in a a matter of weeks.
  • I really like this as a makeup setting spray as well. Especially in winter, even my really nice foundation that normally doesn't look cakey tends to look so on my dry winter skin. After spraying this after my makeup application, I feel like my skin is much more moisturized and my makeup looks a lot better.
There are three products in this range including a new product called the Brightening Foaming Cleanser as well as the Brightening Moisture Cream, Brightening Essence serum and Brightening SPF. For more information, check out their website here.

What is your favorite facial spray or makeup setting spray? Don't forget to follow me on facebook as well. I'm running two giveaways right now! See the current giveways tab for more information.

L'Oreal Paris Wild Ombre

L'Oreal Wild Ombre Review
Although now all I keep hearing is that Ombre is out, but I was still super excited when I first heard about the new Loreal Wild Ombre dye kit.  I looked up many many blog reviews before purchasing and was glad to see that everyone loved it! I knew I had to try it. In theory I want the dramatic bold look as shown below, but in reality I knew I had to stick to a more subtle look. I really was looking for a more highlighted look with lighter ends in the front. This is truly an easy to use customizable versatile product. I actually added dye, shampooed and dried three times, each time tinkering with my results until I was completely satisfied.
My color is 060 which is for medium to dark hair.
Here is what comes in the box
I followed the instructions for the subtle look. The only issue I had was adding the powder packet into the applicator bottle. I didn't get all the powder into the container and it was a little messy. The brush that comes with was SO easy to use. I left the bottom 1/2 section of my hair down and clipped up the rest. I took alternating sections, about 1/2 inch to an inch apart an added dye from around the ear down. This picture below shows how my bottom half ended up looking once dry and curly.
I then let down the top section which was clipped up. I took strands in the very front and started from the root down with the dye. I wanted a more subtle gradual highlight look to make my dark roots just more manageable and brighten up my color. I then just added alternating strands of color, mainly from the top of the ear down. I had an ooops which I will show you how to fix below.

My after results on both straight and curly hair:

*This before picture was taken very soon after I had last dyed my hair so in the last couple weeks, my color had lightened up some and the highlights I had dyed over came peeking through more. So it wasn't as dramatic of a change as it may look. My hair was more of a medium brown I would say, but this was the most recent picture I had to compare.

If you have curly hair like me, you're going to want to straighten. I let my hair dry curly and was like, this looks FANTASTIC.....then I straightened it and had an "eeeekkkk!" moment when I saw this portion of my hair. Its always good to take pictures to see what you may  not otherwise notice. It didn't take much to fix, just a deep breath and some more dye. I took the area where you see the dramatic line in my hair which I don't like! I then too three separate alternating sections from this bigger section.  I applied more dye to the brush and brought some color up closer to the roots so that it blended much better. I let it sit for around 5-7 minutes and then I rinsed it out again. I only rinsed out the part where I re-added dye, so I didn't have to start all over. It came out much better. Trial and error is completely fine as long as you take the time to get it right.

I'm very pleased with my final results. I think if you first have a plan of the look you want to achieve and where you are going to apply the dye, this will be easy for you too and you will like your results. I should say that you can leave this color on for up to 45 minutes. I left it on for 25 minutes and then approximately an average of 5 more minutes for touch-ups. Depending on the color your hair is now, whether it is already color treated, the length you leave this on, and where/how you decide to apply it, you will get different results. All the reviews I saw were positive. If you make any errors, I found it to be a pretty easy fix.

What do you think of the look I got?

Stacy Keibler's Oscars 2013 Hair with Carol's Daughters

{How To}: Stacy Keibler at the Oscars with Carol's Daughter

At the 85th Annual Academy Awards, Stacy Keibler stunned on the red carpet in a look created for her by hairstylist Robert Vetica using Carol’s Daughter products. Vetica turned to Carol’s Daughter’s Monoi and Macadamia collections to create Keibler’s stunning look.

“We wanted to create a modern retro look, very old Hollywood in the 30’s glamour. We chose to do a low side part, deconstructed into a faux bob with loose volume,” said Vetica.

To get the look:

Robert started out with wet hair, adding a few drops of the Carol’s Daughter Monoi Oil Sacred Strengthening Serum ($30) to give Stacy’s hair the strength and flexibility it needed for the initial blowdry.
After blowdrying, Robert applied the Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Heat Protection Serum ($18) before curling her hair into loose waves and setting it with the Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Heat Styling Hair Spray ($17).
Following, Robert brushed out Stacy’s curls and swept hair into a loose faux bob, finishing off the look with the Carol’s Daughter Finishing Shine Mist ($18) to give her hair a lasting, red-carpet shine.

WHERE TO FIND: Carol’s Daughter products are available at Carol’s Daughter Stores, Carolsdaughter.com, Ulta, Sephora, Macy’s, Belk and Dillard’s stores nationwide.

Tips for Oscar Worthy Skin from Kate Somerville

Kate Somerville is one of my favorite skincare brands and I'm bringing you her top tips for Oscar worthy skin. I'm sure you've seen the gorgeous celebrities on the red carpet tonight and wondered how they (and you) can get this look! The three key steps are 1. Exfoliate, 2. Hydrate, and 3. Moisturize.

The products Kate recommends for each step are:
  1. ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment – use 2-3 times a week and leave it on for a few minutes in the shower.  The steam will help the enzymes do their work! Exfoliation is key for smoother brighter skin. Use gentle products with fruit enzymes and microbeads.
  2. DermalQuench Liquid Lift uses oxygen and fast penetrating hyaluronic acid to mimic the lifting, hydrating, glowy-skin effects ofKate’s most popular professional pre-red carpet treatment. A product with hyaluronic acid is key to lock that moisture in.
    1. Click here for my review.
  3. Deep Tissue Repair Cream with Peptide K8 – to renew skin overnight, add a few drops of Quench Hydrating Face Serum to Deep Tissue Repair before bed. Look for a product that contains peptides.
Kate's other tips:
  • Eat green veggies or make a smoothie to help with your immune system
  • Get enough sleep
    • Use a humidifier and a few drops of essential oils like chamomile to help
  • Drink water and water rich foods like salmon and flaxseed
  • Eat organic fruits and veggies, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates
  • Workout at least 30 minutes a day

Rimmel London Face of the Day

One Brand Look of the Day: Rimmel London
Here is a look I created using only Rimmel London products. I've had a lot of experience with Rimmel as it is one of the most affordable drugstore brands available and because my former co-bloggie and friend Justina was one of the Rimmel 10 finalists for the past year! So, I got to share in some of the glory and swag!  I was inspired to create this specific look using only Rimmel  after seeing Katy Perry's Grammy look which was done using Rimmel London. You can see my post with the details on how to get her look here.

1. Apply a primer. I applied Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer 002. This comes out in a white lotion appearance with a powdery scent. The lotion appearance is deceiving as once it is applied it becomes silky and smooth similar to the feel I get on my skin with the Balm's primer or Smashbox oil free primer. This however doesn't compare as well in minimizing pores and making the foundation last.

2. Apply foundation & concealer. Rimmel's foundations are very tricky for me. In the bottle the colors are really hard to differentiate for my skintone and the color appears different on than in the bottle. However, I do really like the Clean Finish formulation. Usually to get the right color and a little bit more lasting effects, I mix Clean Finish with Lasting Finish. Lasting Finish on its own is a very full coverage foundation that is a little too heavy for me and a little too much coverage. I mixed the Clean Finish 320 True Nude with Lasting Finish 100 Ivory to get this look. I've also noticed with time the Lasting Finish needs to be shaken up and has a little bit more of an oil consistency as you can see below. These provide nice coverage and are nice foundations, but on me made my pores appear a little larger than I would've liked. The concealer works okay at first, but a little more coverage and a little longer lasting coverage would be nice.
L to R: Warm Honey, Classic Beige, 320 True Nude
L to R: 303 True Nude, 100 Ivory
L to R: 303 True Nude, 100 Ivory
(you can see this is a more oily foundation, especially as it ages!)
L to R: 303 True Nude, 100 Ivory, Concealer in 245 Light

3. Apply powders. I applied the Stay Matte powder with a kabuki brush all over to buff in my foundation and create a flawless even finish. I applied the bronzer lightly all over with a fluffy kabuki brush and then more concentrated in the hollows area of my cheeks for contouring. In then applied the Match perfection blush using the two darker colors and the lightest as a highlight on my cheekbone.

L to R:
Stay Matte Pressed Powder 005 Silky Beige, Match Perfection Blush 003 Medium, Natural Bronzer 021 Sun Light

4. Apply Eyeshadow. I used the new Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in 002 bulletproof beige. The color was gorgeous. Is it bulletproof and lasts for 24 hours?  Not so much! I noticed some creasing on my lids within a couple hours of application. As far as oily lids go, I would put myself in a middle category. This was much better than other drugstore stick eyeshadows I've tried though which crease almost immediately. I would suggest using this as a base or as an eyeliner. I lined the inner V area of my eyes with this and really liked that result. For my look, I applied this all over the lid and topped it with a single shadow called Precious Rose which is a nice light pink all over the lid. I used the purple/plum shade in the trio pictured below in the outer V area, applying it with a crease brush and the yellow shade tapped on with a flat shadow brush on the outer lid area.

Top to bottom:
New! Scandaleyes Shadow Stick Bulletproof Beige
New! Scandaleyes 001 Black Waterproof Kohl liner
Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner 040 Purple Passion
New! Scandaleyes Shadow Stick Bulletproof Beige
5. Apply Mascara. I used the Scandaleyes Show Off mascara in the bright pink tube. This has a rubber bristle brush that is much smaller than the original Scandaleyes mascara in the orange tube. As you can see, this has a little ball type shape at the end to help apply your mascara vertically and reach hard to reach little lashes. I thought this mascara looked pretty good, although I had to work at it with a few coats and there was some clumping together.
I also wish the wand was a little longer because it was hard to just use that main section without the tip kind of being in the way. My favorite Rimmel mascara which is actually one of my all time drugstore mascara faves is the one to the far right which is the Lash Accelerator mascara. I get the most incredible length with this one. A lot of it depends on your lashes and which type of wand you prefer. Its like Goldilocks and the three bears, Show Off is too short for me, Scandaleyes original is too big for me, but Lash Accelerator is just right!
6. Apply Lipstick. I used Kate Lasting Finish in 08. This is nice light mauve color. I love how these lipsticks go on at first, the colors are great and they feel moisturizing and have just enough shine to them. However, these last less than 2 hours on me and tend to be drying and flake off unevenly. I hope they work on their formulation as a lot of the colors are just spectacular.

Overall Brand Evaluation:
*Based on price, longevity, color/pigmentation, application, ease of use.
Excellent: Lash Accelerator mascara, Single eye shadows (Precious Rose, Posh Peacock, Night Jewel, Spicy Bronze). I don't see the single shadows in stores anymore which is a shame as its one of their best products.

Good: Fix & Perfect Primer, Natural Bronzer, Stay Matte, Scandaleyes mascara (orange), Scandaleyes Show off mascara (purple), Scandaleyes 001 Black Waterproof Kohl liner, Match Perfection 2 in 1 Concealer & Highlighter 245 Light, Union Jack eyeshadow palettes, Clean Finish and Lasting Finish foundation, Scandaleyes eyeshadow stick in bulletproof beige (as a base and liner)

Okay: Match Perfection Blush, Eyeshadow Quads & Trios (shadows are very hit and miss), Kate Lasting Finish lipstick, Scandaleyes eyeshadow stick in bulletproof beige (as a stand alone shade)

Fail: Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in white, Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner 040 Purple Passion (these are the extremely cheap ones and not the new scandaleyes kohl liners)

I will be testing out their new BB cream soon, so stay tuned for that review! Don't forget to follow me on Google+ and +1 this post if you've enjoyed it! What is your favorite Rimmel product?

New Scents for Spring!

New Scents for Spring
*giveaway of each to follow shortly
With Spring just around the corner (fingers crossed), I wanted to introduce to you two new scents for Spring. Both are incredibly lovely and lift my spirits, getting me ready for brighter warmer days.
GUESS Girl: GUESS Girl is proudly feminine, and its design is playfully pink. The fragrance is presented in a soft pink folding box bedecked with a printed fuchsia ribbon that lyrically wraps around the package and forms the letter “G.” Open this gift to discover a shapely glass flacon that embodies its curvy muse. The fragrance makes an entrance with a burst of sweet promise: innocent Raspberry Nectar, coy Melon, and intriguing Bergamot Mist. The flirtation continues with a tease of rare Brazilian Paradise Orchid, intoxicating Acacia Flower, and alluring Lily. Finally, it ensnares you with voluptuous Vanilla and indulgent Sandalwood, leaving an impression as lasting as lipstick on a pillowcase. 3.4 fl oz./$52. Available at GUESS.com.

Thoughts: This has the most gorgeous bottle ever. It is a pink glass bottle with a fabric rose at the very top. It is very light and fruity which makes it a perfect fragrance for Spring. It isn't overwhelming at all and I think perfume lovers will delight in this.

Surprise! By Heidi Klum: Surprise her with the ultimate romantic gift: an unexpected, exuberant fragrance. Reflecting Heidi’s multi-faceted personality, Surprise! is built around explosive, elegant notes, creating a sexy floral fragrance. It opens with a joyful burst of juicy Mandarin extracts and spicy Pink Pepper for a luminous and dynamic top note. At the heart, an ultra-feminine bouquet of Rose Petals and Magnolia creates a refined radiance. Finally, the magnetic drydown of Benzoin and Milk of Sandalwood delivers a warm, sensual and unforgettable effect. 1.0 fl. oz./$28.00. Available at drugstores nationwide.

Thoughts: This has a little bit more of a muskiness to it than the Guess perfume. It it still light and fun for spring, but with a little bit deeper of a tone to it. It also comes in an absolutely gorgeous glass bottle with lots of pink of course and at $28 is affordable for all!

Stay tuned for a giveaway! "Like" me on facebook, it will be a free entry once the giveaway starts!

Product of the Day: Nelson J Argan Oil 7 in 1

Product of the Day: Nelson J Argan Oil Non-Foaming Shampoo

About: "Nelson j Argan Oil Non-Foaming Shampoo is a revolutionary product in hair care. A 7-in-1 formula, this one product replaces your shampoo, conditioner, detangler, shine spray, smoothing serum, color protector, pre-styling lotion. It is the first non-foaming shampoo that cleanses hair thoroughly but without all the harsh ingredients that may be found in ordinary shampoos - it is designed so it won't strip hair and scalp of their natural oils. Your hair is left with shine, moisture, manageability and better color retention." From http://www.nelsonjhaircare.com/

To say I was skeptical of testing out a 7 in 1 product would probably be an understatement  Skeptical  but curious and hopeful. I've used other multi-use products before with differing results, but I can't recall ever using one that claimed to be 7 products in 1, including Shampoo and Conditioner. Anytime I've tried a Shampoo and Conditioner in 1, it turns out to be a disaster. I have naturally very curly hair which equates to my strands needing tons of extra moisture. This contains citrus, argan oil and peppermint and has a really nice refereshing peppermint scent. So how did this product work on my curly strands?

How to use:
  • I've used a lot of paraben free limited lather shampoos before. This one means it when it says non-foaming. There will be absolutely no foaming or soapiness at all.
  • To use, apply some to your hands and then to your scalp. Work in vigorously with your fingertips. As you can see in the picture above there are little blue beads in this. This will allow for some nice scalp massaging action. I also feel that when I really rub this into my scalp. I won't be finding beads in my hair later on.
  • I then work this throughout the rest of my hair down to my ends and comb through with my fingers or wide toothed comb.
  • Rinse out!
  • In order to test this out in every way possible, I used this 1) alone, 100% alone with no styling products, 2) with a regular conditioner (MINA Organics) and no other products, 3) with a regular conditioner and my regular styling products.
My final thoughts:
  • I saw results after one wash.
  • This left my hair super soft and silky. I kept running my hands through my hair and just touching my head because it felt so soft and silky.
  • My curls were more manageable and air dried a little looser than they would normally which I liked.
  • This also made it much easier to straighten my hair since I didn't have to focus on reducing my curl's fluff and frizz and accomplishing shine and smoothness. I could just flat iron out the remaining curls and be good to go.
  • I used this 100% alone about 3 times just to make sure of my results and I think this is really a product you could use alone, or possibly pair with just a finishing spray or hairspray since your detangler, shine spray, smoothing serum, color protector and pre-styling lotion are all taken care of.
  • My preference would to still be to add a small amount of conditioner and either rinse it out or just leave a little bit in as a leave in conditioner. I found my hair looked even better that way, but again, I don't think its actually necessary, especially if your hair doesn't require that much  maintenance. I can see my mother who has limited hair and beauty products, unlike her obsessed daughter, just loving a product like this!
The thought of throwing out my conditioner, detangler, shine spray, smoothing serum, color protector and pre-styling lotion seems like it would never be a possibility, but this product actually makes the unthinkable thinkable! If you have really unruly hair, I would suggest best results with a small amount of conditioner and a finishing spray. This retails for $20 which is totally worth it for a 7 in 1 product. Has anyone tried this product or anything like it? It gets my stamp of approval for sure. And don't forget to follow me on Google+!

Clark's Botanicals {Brand Feature}

Brand Feature on Clark's Botanicals

This is a company with a remarkable start: (from http://www.clarksbotanicals.com/our-story.html)

Clark's Botanicals was born out of tragedy when company founder Francesco Clark, who then worked at Harper's Bazaar, suffered a crippling spinal cord injury in a swimming pool diving accident on June 1, 2002.
With his central nervous system impaired, Francesco lost the ability not only to walk, but even to sweat. This led to clogged pores and chronic breakouts.

When neither over-the-counter nor prescriptive remedies worked, he turned to his father, Dr. Harold Clark, a physician trained in both traditional Western medicine and homeopathy. Together they developed botanically-based formulas that effectively rebalanced Francesco's skin, clearing it up entirely. That's why all Clark's Botanicals products today feature Jasmine Absolute, a precious essential oil that naturally rebalances skin. A percentage of profits from the sale of Clark's Botanicals go to The Christopher Reeve Foundation.

Clark's Ulta Rich Lip Tint

About: These shades including a new release of First Kiss in February are based on the same formula which made the original Clark's Botanicals Lip Balm so well known. These are enriched with all natural ingredients, including Shea Butter, Aloe Leaf Extract, Jojoba and Sweet Almond Oils. Retails $19/each.
  • First Kiss: A subtle hue perfect for a romantic date, compliments nay skin tone for a seductive  sophisticated look with just the right pop of color-it's a matte red shade infused with pink undertones.
  • Moore Nude: Julianne Moore has been a big supporter of Clark’s Botanicals and a friend. Her natural beauty and elegance is a perfect fit for how I define beauty. The Color: As the name suggests, Moore Nude provides a hint of color for when you want a sheer, natural look.
Left to Right: 05 Moore Nude, 08 First Kiss
My thoughts:
These provide a gorgeous semi-sheer wash of color and are super moisturizing. I love the color selections I got to test out. There was no irritating scent or flavor to me and I love that they have natural ingredients and are made without parabens (which are believed possibly interfere with hormones).

Cellular Lifting Moisture Mist

Product Info:
Designed to refresh even as it reinforces and replenishes the skin, this facial mist is a multi-tasking wonder. No mere water, one spritz of this alcohol-free, anti-bacterial liquid treatment infuses skin with moisture and delivers a host of powerful anti-aging ingredients, including rare Swiss Apple Stem Cells. $45/100ml, $28/30ml. My thoughts:
This has a nice light refreshing feel to it. I love using products like this especially in summer months. You can keep it cold in the fridge too for some refreshment on hot summer days. This does have a scent to it, but it is not overwhelming or irritating. I found this did add extra moisture to my skin. Instead of using as much day or night cream, I could get by with a few spritzes of this. If you are a product over users as I am, you may want to preserve this and use no more than 1-2 squirts as I ran out of this quite quickly as I liked it so much! It also comes in a gorgeous green elegant bottle which I love.

"Clark's Botanicals is an organic part of me and my recovery," says Francesco. "Everything about this line has a purpose and reason for being, from the ingredients to the packaging. It's an expression of who I am in its purest form."

Thoughts? Have you ever tried any Clark's products and if so what were your thoughts on them?

My Current Hair-care Routine

My current daily hair-care routine
I've gotten into a really good hair routine lately to help my hair look it's best. Often times that means taking some of your products from your favorite brands and through trial and errors finding a perfect combination. All of these products have been essential to repairing my damaged color treated hair and leaving it healthy despite heat straightening it. I highly recommend all of these brands. I have reviewed all of them previously and the link to the full reviews are listed below each product so please take a minute to check them out.

1. Onesta Strengthening Shampoo
2. MINA Organics Conditioner
3. DermOrganic Leave In Treatment Serum
4. Detangler
5. John Frieda Full Repair Heat Style Spray
Have you tried any of these products? What is your current haircare routine? Don't forget to follow me on Google+!
