Healthy DIY Flavored Water

The best water bottle ever!

I know you've heard over and over how important it is to get at least 8 glasses of water per day. What I've heard more recently is to drink half your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 200 lb pounds, you should be drinking 100 ounces of water per day. I actually get an decent amount of water throughout the day and I'm obsessed with organic lemons so I drink tons of lemon water. But sometimes water does get boring and you need something to mix it up a little bit. However, if you've looked at flavored waters or even bottled teas at the store there are a lot of chemical additives, natural flavors, fake sugars and worse! Using a water infuser can be the answer!

I've seen more and more products that are marketed as being healthy too like Mio Fit yet they contain so many additives and chemicals like sucralose, acesulfame potassium, dyes and synthetically made propylene glycol. Who wants that when they're just trying to do something healthy! I still think some water is better than none, but why not do it naturally? Here is a super easy and convenient way how to get your 8 ounces of water in!

I purchased the aqua zinger on thegrommet.com. This retails for $25.99, but I had signed up for free for the grommet and within about a week I got a $10 off coupon in my e-mail. I figured that was too good to pass up! The Grommet has super cool gadgets, beauty products, techie gear and very unique items that are hard to find elsewhere. I had been searing in-stores for an infuser for awhile to no avail. The site also offers free shipping on orders $25 or over, and I was very happy to see I qualified for free shipping even with my $10 off. I think this was totally worth it for $16! Plus if you are buying flavored waters, teas or water enhancers this can save you money since you can stop doing that and stop paying for icky chemicals!!

There are four pieces: top, bottle, grinder blades, bottom. It comes with instructions which weren't too difficult, but also took me a couple reads to fully get. You basically put your ingredients in the bottom and then put in the grinder. With the top on the bottle, you screw the grinder and bottle onto the bottle piece, grinding the ingredients as your turn. You then leave this sit for 15-30 minutes while the water is infused with flavors.
The Aqua Zinger comes with easy to read recipes and ingredient ideas. I decided for my first time to try some organic blackberries. organic blueberries, organic lemon and spearmint!
Tip: Use organic berries & leaves so pesticide residue doesn't go directly into your water. Check out the frozen foods section for affordable berries picked at their peak ripeness!
The drawbacks to this is that the bottle is heavy even without anything in the bottom, making it less convenient on the go and a little hard to drink from. At home, I transfer this to a regular glass and for to go, I'd suggest pouring it into another water bottle. Out of one bottom full of fruit, lemons and mint I got two full bottles full of flavored water, essentially 4 servings. If you want you could blend the ingredients after into a smoothie so nothing goes to waste.  Also, if you fill the bottom too full, it will spill over so I suggest doing the grinding over a sink, especially when dealing with berries.
The finished result after 30 minutes of infusion! It looks like a gorgeous fruit punch!

What do you think about this infuser? Have you seen these in stores? Is this something you would use frequently? Comment and let me know, I'd love to hear from you!
