Fitness Friday {Nature Infused}

I've been seriously excited to compile this post for everyone. Its a nice change from blogging mainly about beauty products. This week for Fitness Friday, I'm going to focus on natural things, meaning my excursions into nature, products that are natural or that remind me of nature and food that is pure. My goal this week was to focus on eating fresh food without preservatives, a lot of sodium or sugar. I have done this by buying products like plain greek yogurt and sweeten it with dry oats and fruit and using lemon and limes as seasoning. So, here you go, here is my week in pictures for fitness friday, infused with nature.

Brown rice and grains, boiled in water and 2 teaspoons olive oil. Once the water was soaked in and the rice was within 5 minutes of being done, I added some fried paneer which is Indian cheese. This is a cheese that doesn't melt but softens as it is heated up. It really soaks up the flavors of the food it is in, but actually doesn't taste that good alone. It was amazing in this dish. I then added some cinnamon. I hadn't planned on that at all, but the smell of the dish just made me think cinnamon and it turned out amazing. Probably my favorite meal of the week. I also cooked some asparagus in a pan and squeezed some lemons and limes and then sauteed with them in the pan for extra flavoring. I'm addicted to cooking with lemons and limes.

*17 calories to one lemon
*Aids in digestion 

I added the rice and paneer onto a bed of spinach. While waiting for the rice to cook, I chopped up tomatoes, red onions and mushrooms to place over the spinach. I also added black pepper and of course some lemon juice! It turned out amazing and was a ton of food for not a lot of calories!

Lemon Ginger Tea with local fresh honey from the co-op
Its super easy to brew fresh tea if you have a keurig and a cup like shown to add in the tea leaves. Otherwise you can buy contraptions for a couple bucks which will hold loose tea materials that you can seep into hot water. I added some lemon slices to my tea and a 1/2 teaspoon of honey. Local honey is great for allergy sufferers too as it will slowly build up your tolerance to local allergens  You can actually take a teaspoon per day to help. I like to buy local to support the economy. At the co-op here there is a huge vat and the honey comes out warm, its amazing! 
Benefits of Lemon Ginger Tea:

These were two different salsa creations I made. Both were with organic blue corn chips, salt free when available. In the picture above, I cut up a cooked chicken breast from dinner the night before along with some fresh deli chicken slices. I added to it some buffalo sauce which adds some spice and a whole lot of taste for not a lot of calories (15 calories/tablespoon), I then blended this with tomatoes, minced garlic, onions and avocados. This is super easy to make and is really nutritious. It tastes even better if you let it sit overnight or for a few hours for all the flavor to blend it. If you have some extra fixings from the dinner before, throw those in! 
This is pretty similar to above. It contains fresh chopped tomatoes, red onions and avocado. Mixed in is black pepper, lemon and lime juices. It was amazing and so fresh! I never use to like onions but now I can't get enough of them. Even if you didn't use to like something, be sure to give it another chance. Otherwise substitute a low calorie healthy food you do like in for the ingredient I used which you aren't as fond of.

Buy some plain greek yogurt without any sweeteners  Mix this in with a sweeter fruit like strawberries or black berries. I also add about 1/4 of a cup of dry oats in with the mix to blend. Soften oats are easier for some people to eat and it releases some of the sweetness of the oats. I then add in either a teaspoon of sugar or a little bit of juice. My favorite is Minute Maid's Pomegranate juice (not the tea), its so rich and makes me feel great after! I will also add 1/4 of cup of dry oats to the top of the yogurt or if I'm hungrier, I will crumble a Nutri Grain bar over as seen below. 

This Kalona SuperNatural yogurt is one I was at while visiting the local cheese factory to find the freshest of dairy products. (I live in Wisconsin). This is organic and has the most natural of ingredients, it is low sugar, low carb and gluten free. This also has around 100 calories per cup. It comes from smaller farms (average herd is 35 cows) from grass fed pastures.

This is part of Bath & Body Work's Bella Italy collection which also includes Rome Honeysuckle Amore which is a blend of pink honeysuckle, italian peach and cyprus wood and Venice Dolce Berry which is raspberry, blackberry musk and vanilla biscotti. Don't all of those just sound amazing? It sure makes me want to be back on a beach or gondola ride in Italy.

A super easy desert or snack is simply an apply with cinnamon sprinkled over. Cinnamon has a lot of health benefits like possibly lowering blood sugar, may reduce inflammation, have antioxidant effects and fight bacteria.
I enjoyed a lot of nice walks and time spent out in nature this week as we had some pretty good weather days. This whole challenge, doing the dietbet and trying to eat healthier is part of an overall effort for me to improve my life and my health.
