Lilly Brush: Save Our Sweaters

Save Our Sweaters!
I can hear the rally cries now! Save Our Sweaters! How cute is this? Its a portable brush with cover to save your sweater by removing fabric pills, pet hair, and dirt. The bristles are really soft and gentle and work on many types of fabrics.
BEFORE:
AFTER:
I just swept this over part of the arm of a sweater and look all this little brush picked up! Icky! I think my sweater actually looks brighter too even though the picture was taken the same way! Short strokes concentrated in one area worked best for me.
After just a minute on part of one sleeve!

What a handy tool to keep around! This comes in red and black and retails for $12.95 and can be purchased on their website.  Check out the website (including more before & afters) here: http://lillybrush.com/

They are giving away one for every week in December on their facebook, so be sure to like them on facebook too! https://www.facebook.com/saveoursweaters (go to "Win It" tab)

DermOrganic Product Review

DermOrganic: Argan Oil Hair Treatments

About: Vegan, no animal testing, free of sulfates and glutens, no artificial preservatives. Available at Ulta.

Conditioning Shampoo:
Safe and gentle for color treated or processed hair, enriched with Argan Oil with Omega-6 and Linoleic Acid, Vitamin E, Panthenol, Rice Amino Acids, and anti-oxidant plant extracts to preserve the life of hair color. DermOrganic® is the only shampoo made with a proprietary blend of EFA Lipid and Amino-Acid based skin cleansers. That means it is the only shampoo to moisturize, strengthen and rebuild the hair every time you clean your hair! Retails $16.

Intensive Hair Repair Masque:
contains a proprietary blend of rice amino-acids inside a lipid-based emulsification. Instead of coating the hair, DermOrganic works deep, depositing amino acids to strengthen and smooth each individual hair from the inside out while replenishing real, natural moisture. Ideal for color treated hair, gentle and safe. Use at least twice per week. Retails $16.

Hydrating Conditioner:
neutralizes tangled tresses without silicones, propylene glycol or glycerin. Loaded with moisture factors, lipids and Panthenol to increase absorption, improve slip, eliminate tangles and prevent flyaways. Retails $16.

DermOrganic® Leave-In Treatment:
based on Morrocan Argan Fruit Oil, has the unique quality of instant absorption into hair. It restores shine and softness while strengthening brittle hair. Replenishes nourishment to dry, damaged, colored hair. Protects hair from styling heat and UV damage. Unlike other Argan Oil based Treatments, DermOrganic® contains no alcohol, no dyes, and no artificial preservatives. Speeds up hair dry time by 30%! Retails $25.

My thoughts:
I used all four products today and absolutely love them. I know my hair pretty well, so I tweaked the directions a bit. I first used the shampoo which comes out as a creme shampoo unlike others I've seen. This is sulfate free which usually means minimal lathering, but this product had a pretty decent lather. Next I actually used the masque and I left this in for about 3-5 minutes. I rinsed this out with cold water and applied a smaller amount of the conditioner. I let the conditioner sit in my hair for about 1 minute and then rinsed it out.

Once out of the shower, I applied a dime sized amount of the conditioner back into my hair. I do this sometimes because my natural curls need that additional moisture and conditioning, especially in winter, and I've found a lot of natural conditioners work really well as leave in products too. I then applied about a quarter sized amount of the leave in treatment which is a clear serum and smells amazing! I used a little more than directed on my towel dried hair, but again because of my hair type, it just soaks it right up. This is also such a lightweight oil that it didn't leave my hair greasy or feeling weighed down at all.

I let my hair dry naturally. The only other product I used was some frizz hairspray with coconut oil. I found my hair was so amazingly soft and really really manageable without using any other products. This usually doesn't happen with my curls! They take a little bit more finessing. I also noticed that my curls seemed to dry a little looser which I actually love.
Air dry natural curl result:

I then wanted to see how these products looked when my hair was straight. I did use an additional heat protectant just because my hair has had some damage from a chemical product I used over a year ago and so I'm always extra cautious. I also applied some of the leave in serum on my dry hair after flat ironing, especially concentrating on the ends. This smoothed away any fly aways or frizzes and gave me some extra shine. I actually love using this on dry hair as well.
Finished result when straight:

As you can see, these products were really a win for my hair. I'm so glad I had the chance to test out this brand. I've never tried it before and I'm so glad I have now! The price may be more than you normally would pay, but its actually extremely reasonable compared to most of the other natural/organic/vegan/argan oil hair lines I've tried!

Prescriptives Custom Blend Foundation

Prescriptives has always been a leader in customized skincare solutions. In November, they were the first beauty brand to use live video chat/photo upload technology as they launched their Live Chat Custom Blend. This allows you, regardless of what country you live in, to speak with an expert over video camera, upload your photos to them right during that session, and have a custom blend foundation made JUST for you! They will figure out not just what shade is right for you but also where your warm and/or cool undertones fall on the color wheel and tweak the formula accordingly.
A final look with this foundation!

Schedule your appointment for free now: http://www.prescriptives.com/customblend/index.tmpl

The appointment takes about 20 minutes and all you need is hi-speed WiFi and a webcam. I actually had some difficulties on my end with my web cam, but we made it work. The Prescriptives custom blend expert, Nikki, was so wonderful and helpful. After speaking with her, I really trusted her to make my custom blend foundation. I uploaded a current photo of me right into our chat.. I'm in between fall and winter shades right now so I've been mixing my foundations and attempting custom blends of my own, which hasn't worked out too well! I had a couple foundations with me which I used in a picture and sent to her later per her instructions. Don't worry, I cropped and edited this for the purpose of the blog, the process is very easy!

My two foundation samples I used for my picture were Covergirl 125 Buff Beige and Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid 2CN1. As you can see, neither of them are quite right at all for me right now.
My Prescriptives custom blend foundation stripe:
Prescriptives will name the foundation for you so you can keep track of what foundation blend is for what season, etc. I asked for a medium coverage foundation with some extra moisture in it and a healthy glow finish. All you have to do is add in your custom foundation information to their website in a very easy to use form. Just seeing my recipe really made me feel like I was getting something really special because it was made specifically to address my needs. I mentioned to them I have some redness to my skin which is the main issue I wish to cover up. There was also an option for an ingredient which helps with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, which I didn't think I needed to add. I did notice however this foundation settling into some fine lines, so I would recommend that additional ingredient even if you don't have major wrinkles.

My custom foundation:
Suggested Foundation Name: FL/WNT Fndtn: Med. Cover. w/Candlelt.&Moistr.
Step 1: Level 1 & Level 2
Step 2: Medium Coverage
Step 3: Candlelight Finish
Step 4: Moisturizes
Step 5: Yellow 2, Green 1, Pink 2, Blue 2, White 5

And here is what I got in the mail this week (and super quick might I add):
Comes with a little pouch
And a little mini travel foundation!
Wide open top (not my favorite for product control)

Me with the foundation on in more bare makeup pictures:

Final thoughts:  I really really love the customization feature and the video chat with photo upload. I've gone to cosmetic counters many times to get matched for foundations and they (usually) at least do a better job than I would on my own, but still, a lot of foundations are never quite right. This foundation retails at $65. It does come in a really large bottle with a smaller travel size. The packaging made this feel even more decadent and like such a special treat for myself. I have a lot of foundations that are in the $30-$40 range, which I already feel is a lot to spend on a foundation. I think most women are probably thinking along the same lines as me. I can see a lot of women ordering this for special occasions and most especially for weddings.

The formula was really nice, silky, and felt lightweight. It had a very subtle scent to it, but was not perfumey at all. I applied this with a foundation brush and found I needed to work this in more with the heat of my fingers for it to really blend in. I also thought a finishing powder was a must with this to buff this in perfectly to my skin. I thought this didn't sink into my skin the same way as a lot of my other foundations. Prescriptives does make custom powders as well. I prefer a lightweight loose powder instead of a compact style though.

This really was a custom blend and as you can see, it matches my skin tone perfectly! All in all, this is a win in my book, the only thing that would be holding me back would be the $65 price tag. There is however no cost for the video chat! What are your thoughts? Is this something that appeals to you?

I'll Have a Blue, Blue Christmas: Blue Eyeshadow Tips

Blue Christmas
Property of Intrubeauty
I'll have a blue Christmas....well with makeup anyways! This post is basically about how to rock a blue eyeshadow look, for any day, even Christmas! Blue is probably the color of eyeshadow that I wear the absolute least because it makes me cringe thinking of the 80s, and it also isn't the best complimentary color for me. So why am I wearing it then? Well, because you really can make blue work with these simple tips.

1. Pick a complimentary eyeshadow palette
Pick an eyeshadow palette that has a variety of blue colors along with colors that compliment your eye shade. I picked this gorgeous Avon true color quad palette because not only did it have some lovely blues in it, it also had some shades like a lilac purple and a darker green that I knew would compliment my green eyes. Also, this palette puts it all together for you, taking the guess work out of it!

Purchase Avon here: http://yadirasandoval.avonrepresentative.com/

2. Lighten it up!
You don't want your blue eye look to look too blue or too dark. I picked a complimentary color called "Kitten" from Lancome which is a gorgeous shimmery peachy shade. I used this to lighten up my look and I mainly blended this in the outer V area of the eye and brought it up to the brow bone for a highlight.

I see you!
3. Line it up!
Blues work great as liners. I applied the bright blue #3 as a liner color on the upper lash line, dabbing in on-top of some black liquid eyeliner, using a slanted eyeshadow brush. I focused the deep green shade in the outer lash area since this is a more complimentary shade for my eyes and then mixed some of the blue with that shade and brought the blue into the inner lash line for some oomph!
4. Go easy on your outfit and accessories
Pair this with neutral or a solid colored outfit. If you want another statement piece, try a colorful belt or some sparkly heels, just try to keep your other statement piece away from your face/head, so you don't look like you over did it.

5. Pair with a peachy pink lip
These colors pair well with a nice peachy pink. I'm wearing Avon's Vermilion which is my ultimate top lip pick right now as well and retails for only $8. Check the link above if you want to purchase from an awesome Avon lady.
Vermilion
6. Fill in brows and dramatic lashes
I was just too lazy to put false lashes on, but they would pair well with this look. I used Make Up For Ever's Smokey Lash to achieve my bold lash look. I also used Benefit's Bad Gal mascara in plum on the outer lashes just to add another complimentary color. Almay has a great line of products specific to your eye color, including mascaras. I like to add a purple, plum, or chocolate brown to the tips and/or outer lashes to make my eyes pop even more!

Thats about it, all you need to rock a blue eyeshadow look. Thanks for reading and happy holidays to all from Intrubeauty!

Yours,

Jessica

Try some of Indie Lee's amazing facial oils at Indielee.com. My favorite is the Squalane facial oil which is 100% squalane (olive oil derived). This crystal clear smooth oil sinks into your skin, leaves it feeling and looking so wonderful. This is obviously an oil but it won't leave your skin oily nor will it clog your pores. I just wouldn't put it on and then rush out the door! I'm a huge huge fan of her products. My favorite body oil is the lavender moisturizing oil and you can't go wrong giving any of these as gifts. Squalane is $32, 1oz. The facial serum is $130 for 1oz, pictured above. A lot of her products come in this gorgeous brown glass container with a dropper. Read more here.
Me & The Girls Beauty Gift Sets, http://www.meandthegirls.com/, were inspired by a woman taking care of drug addicted babies in a hospital.
