November's Task: In The Beginning

  • How long have you been blogging?
    • I have been blogging over a year now. I co-founded the blog TruBeautyGems with  my friend Justina and I started this solo blog in November.
  • What/who inspired you to start blogging?
    • Emily Eddington of Beauty Broadcast had me hooked. I found her first video when I was looking for reviews of New Beauty Test Tube and hers was the first video I found. After that I watched video upon video upon video and told Justina about her channels, we both became huge fans and decided to start our own blog.
  • Did you tell your family and friends about your blog? If so, what was their reaction? Are they supportive or "in the dark" about your blogging?
    • I have and they are very supportive. I'm half out of the closet. I try to keep my professional life and my blogging life separate but there are mandatory family members and friends that are told okay now go like this page and now please do this :) Although one of the things I love is being able to provide some products to them as well. My parents are currently fighting over which side of the room the LightStim for Wrinkles should be plugged into since their respective chairs are on different sides of the room. :) Everyone has been a good sport about it.
  • What goals or dreams did you have for your blog when you started? Have you accomplished them?
    • I have in many ways and I have so much more to accomplish in others. I'm a To Do list kind of girl and like to set long term and short term goals. I could've never imagined on Day 1 while I was writing my first blog post that we would get to 500 facebook fans in a year and nearly 180,000 blog views. We've worked with companies I could've only dreamed with having any connection with a short time ago. My goal is to branch out and blog about more "hard hitting" topics such as body image and the media and the chemicals we need to be aware of in our products.
  • If you could give your beginner-blogger-self one tip of advice, what would it be?
    • Keep it fun!
  • What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being a blogger?
    • My favorite thing is the photography and design aspect. I love editing photos, taking photos and designing cards, logos, etc. (currently now just on my cell phone, working on getting a nice camera) My least favorite thing is the technical aspects of blogging such as html code and the technical set up of the blog. Some of that is like a foreign language to me. Luckily I have my brother who has to deal with some frantic emails from me! :)
  • What does your blog name mean? How did you decide on it?
    • My first blog was TruBeautyGems, the "Tru" referring to part of my name and the "Gems" referring to part of my co-blogger's name. I do know that "True"  is the correct full spelling, however the "Tru" fits better with my name. I decided to work off of that name and create InTruBeauty, keeping part of my name as part of the new blog.
    •  I blog about all things beautiful and I wanted to put more of an emphasis on inner true beauty on this blog.
  • Thanks everyone for your support in my launch! Official launch giveaway will be announced December 1st!
Yours InTruBeauty,

Jessica

What do I consider all things beautiful? I think the movie American Beauty says it for me best:
"It was one of those days when it's a minute away from snowing and there's this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it. And this bag was, like, dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes. And that's the day I realized there was this entire life behind things, and... this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Video's a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember... and I need to remember... Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in."-American Beauty
