This post on facial wipes is brought to you by my mom! She is in her early 50s and loves using wipes to remove her makeup; I, however, absolutely hate using them, so I pass all my reviews on to her and she has become our resident face wipe expert. Seeing as though she uses various kinds of wipes several times a week, I think her opinion can be trusted. If you want to learn more, read on!
I had the opportunity to try various facial wipes for their ability to remove makeup, resulting effect on the skin, and packaging. Brands rated include Simple, Neutrogena, La Fresh, Klorane and Up and Up.
All had similar claims such as alcohol free, hypoallergenic, dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested.
Neutrogena wipes worked the best for removal of all types of makeup...blush, foundation, eyeshadow, liner and mascara. Simple was least effective and left makeup behind. The rest were only slightly less effective than Neutrogena. La Fresh has separate wipes for eyes/ lips and face. I am not inclined to use two different wipes because it is not convenient and I felt the wipes for eyes/lips did not need to be as large as the facial wipes.
My face felt the most clean, soft and toned after Neutrogena with Klorane a close second. Simple towelettes were dry and rough and I did not like how they made my skin feel.
Packaging was similar for all brands - a plastic pouch with a peel and stick opening. Resealing this after use is key to keeping the moisture in the towelettes. Klorane solves this issue with a hard plastic snap down lid over the peel and stick tab. Neutrogena (and perhaps other brands but I am unaware) offers a plastic box option for storage. Simple were the driest even with a good seal on the package; Neutrogena were the best at remaining moist down to the end of the package.
Overall favorite: Neutrogena
