Tweezerman Cynthia Rowley

Tweezerman & Cynthia Rowley Team Up:
A Match Made in Design Heaven

Tweezerman has teamed up with Cynthia Rowley to put a new design on their legendary tweezers.
Exclusive to Sephora.
I am a huge fan of Tweezerman because their tweezers are noticeably sharper than others, allowing you to get at every pesky little unwanted hair. I was actually talking to Justina and comparing a different tweezer brand which we were sent for free to Tweezerman and my comparison was a butter knife to a steak knife. If you're going to eat steak with a butter knife, good luck! By that I also mean these are super sturdy, come to a very defined point, and seem to stay sharper longer.

Cynthia Rowley Slant Tweezer, $25

The angled tip rests comfortably against your skin for easy, painless plucking and the carefully calculated tension ensures ultimate precision. The stainless steel is durable and easy to clean and the small shape makes it an ideal addition to your makeup or travel bag.

Cynthia Rowley Mini Slant Tweezer, $15

Tweeze in a breeze with this stylish, extra-portable version of Tweezerman’s smart tool, adorned with an eye-catching print from New York fashion designer, Cynthia Rowley. The angled tip rests comfortably against your skin for easy, painless plucking and the carefully calculated tension ensures ultimate precision. The stainless steel is durable and easy to clean and the small size makes it an ideal addition to your makeup or travel bag.
Cynthia Rowley Filemate, $5

Shape your nails to pretty perfection with this file decorated in a beautiful pattern from New York designer Cynthia Rowley. The small size is just right for your purse or pocket and the slim case keeps the file clean and protected.

What are your thoughts on these new designs? My favorite is the pink/purple/red design!

Rain Cosmetics {Reviews}

We were recently given the chance to try some Rain Cosmetics products.  We love the packaging and couldn't wait to see how the products measured up...keep reading for our mini reviews of what we tried!

High Roller Mascara
Justina Says: I loved the aqua blue packaging of this mascara.  As far as application, I thought it was pretty average for a high end mascara.  The color is rich black and the formula promises to build bold, weightless volume, as well as longer, thicker, and smudge free lashes.  I loved that it thickened my lashes without flaking off all over.  For $22 this would be a good pick for a mascara if you're not looking for high drama.  It's a good every day formula.
Gloss of Fame in Berry Manilow
Justina Says: I love this berry colored shade because it is so unique.  It is definitely in the berry family but very pink/coral toned.  I don't have anything like it, and I have a huge makeup bag JUST for my berry lip colors.  It's a very shiny formula and ultra moisturizing.  The color goes on highly pigmented, and even when the gloss fades over time with wear, the color remains on the lips, almost like a stain.  It smells like vanilla to me, which I love.  I've been reaching for this shade a lot lately!
Conceal...Reveal Flawless Foundation SPF 15-
Justina Says: This is a very smooth and silky foundation.  It's almost like it has a built in makeup primer- that is how silky the formula is!  Because of how feather light the foundation is, I felt like I used more of the formula than I normally would use.  I am wearing it in the picture above, and I feel like it made my skin look very smooth and soft.  I also love the fact that it has SPF!  It is a very light and thin formula for a product that has SPF- usually products with sun protection go on thicker and are harder to spread.
Jessica Says: My shade is Cream Corset. I loved the feel and texture of this product. It was almost mousse-like. It applied evenly and smoothly onto my skin and was easy to use. The packaging is super cute and has a nice tip which ensures you don't waste product. You don't need too much of this to cover your face and I would consider the coverage to be medium. This blended nicely with my natural skin-tone and really did give my skin a flawless look.

Color Storm Lip Lacquer in Fire Storm:
Jessica Says: This red is a "racy scarlet red" and does not disappoint. If you are looking for a bright red that will wow, this is definitely it. It has a fruity smell to it which I love. My only complaints are it seemed to make some dry skin on my bottom lip more noticeable (time for some lip exfoliation with a tooth brush), and the brush applicator made it a little difficult to control the amount of product. I found I would apply too much to begin with and had to pat some off, but its certainly not the end of the world! This color is long lasting and even when wiped off, leaves a colored stain on your lips (in a good way). Retails $20.

Guest Blog- Best and Worst Face Wipes

This post on facial wipes is brought to you by my mom!  She is in her early 50s and loves using wipes to remove her makeup; I, however, absolutely hate using them, so I pass all my reviews on to her and she has become our resident face wipe expert.  Seeing as though she uses various kinds of wipes several times a week, I think her opinion can be trusted.  If you want to learn more, read on!

I had the opportunity to try various facial wipes for their ability to remove makeup, resulting effect on the skin, and packaging. Brands rated include Simple, Neutrogena, La Fresh, Klorane and Up and Up.

All had similar claims such as alcohol free, hypoallergenic, dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested.

Neutrogena wipes worked the best for removal of all types of makeup...blush, foundation, eyeshadow, liner and mascara. Simple was least effective and left makeup behind. The rest were only slightly less effective than Neutrogena. La Fresh has separate wipes for eyes/ lips and face. I am not inclined to use two different wipes because it is not convenient and I felt the wipes for eyes/lips did not need to be as large as the facial wipes.

My face felt the most clean, soft and toned after Neutrogena with Klorane a close second. Simple towelettes were dry and rough and I did not like how they made my skin feel.

Packaging was similar for all brands - a plastic pouch with a peel and stick opening. Resealing this after use is key to keeping the moisture in the towelettes. Klorane solves this issue with a hard plastic snap down lid over the peel and stick tab. Neutrogena (and perhaps other brands but I am unaware) offers a plastic box option for storage. Simple were the driest even with a good seal on the package; Neutrogena were the best at remaining moist down to the end of the package.

Overall favorite: Neutrogena

Look of the Day: Autumn Fairy Tale

Look of the Day: Autumn Fairy Tale

Besides Fall being my worst allergy season, I love the crisp cool air, the emergence of changing colors and an abundance of browns, golds, and reds. Here is my Autumn inspired look of the day! I've been wearing lots of olives, browns, golds, and plums paired with either a deep red lip or a simple neutral lip. This kind of weather just has a certain romanticism to it which inspired my set below!

Laura Geller: Bright Lids, Big City

Laura Geller: Bright Lids, Big City (Summer 2012,

What is it: A collection of three Sugared Baked Pearl Eye Shadows in megawatt shades. Day or night, big-city shindig or impromptu brunch, light up your looks instantly with just a few sweeps of show-stopping color. Transforming your lids into light-catching, dazzling eyes has never been this electrifying.(descriptions from QVC website, pictures are property of TruBeautyGems)
  • 0.06-oz Sugared Baked Pearl Eye Shadow in Tribeca Blue, a satiny electric cobalt shade
  • 0.06-oz Sugared Baked Pearl Eye Shadow in Upper East Side Purple, a luxe metallic grape shade
  • 0.06-oz Sugared Baked Pearl Eye Shadow in Soho Pink, a glimmering magenta shade
Who is it for: Anyone who wants to stop traffic with alluring, electric-hued eyes.
How do I use it: Sweep an eye shadow brush over any of the powders and apply from the base of your lashes up to the eyelid crease. You can also use each shade as an eyeliner. For a bolder, high-voltage look, dampen your brush and apply eye shadows wet.
Why is it different: The collection features three brand-new eye shadow shades. You can also use each one as a brightly-hued eyeliner.

My Look:
I used Laura Geller eye spackle as an eye primer and used the neutral eyeshadows in the Laura Geller Baked Eye Dreams "Sandbar" onto the inner lid. I applied the pink color onto the outer lid and the purple color into the outer V area of the eye. I lined my eye using Laura Geller Inkwell Waterproof Gel liner in Purple and topped it with the purple eyeshadow.

What are your thoughts on these gorgeous colors? Have you used any of these or any of the Laura Geller line? We are major fans!

Éclos- Plant Based Beauty

After a MyGlam bag a few months ago had an Éclos product in, Jessica was hooked and we knew we had to try more.  We were sent their plant based skin care set.  It's a great value at $19.99 and can be purchased through Freeman Beauty's website.  I love that they are travel sized and it's a great way to try the whole collection at once.

I would describe Éclos as middle-of-the-road in terms of prices.  It's too expensive to be classified as drugstore, and too cheap to be department store.  The entire line is formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, mineral oil, or petroleum.

These are the 6 products that come in the kit:

Facial Cleanser Skin Prep (rejuvenate and clean)
Restorative Eye Cream (fortify and correct)
Cellular Activator Facial Serum (regenerate and rebuild)
Instant Radiance Facial Scrub (smooth and renew)
Moisture Therapy Regenerative Cream (hydrate and strengthen)
What I found the most awesome about this line was the price (around $20 per product) considering the quality of the products.  The active ingredient that makes this special is the Plant Stem Cells extracted from a rare Swiss apple, (Uttwiler Spätlauber), which stimulates skin stem cells, encouraging aging skin to behave like younger skin.  This is a relatively new discovery in skincare, and most products containing this ingredient cost hundreds of dollars.  Oskia, Xeridian Skincare, Indie Lee, Chantecaille, Glymed, Theraesthetics, and Derma Swiss are just a few product lines that contain this highly coveted ingredient, and all of these lines cost at least 3 times what Éclos goes for.

According to their website, these are the clinically proven results:

-100% of the women saw a reduction in wrinkle appearance  within 2 weeks
-Skin’s collagen matrix and elastin fibroblasts can look up to 15 years younger (a 50 year old subject’s skin can appear like that of a 35 year old)

So what did we think?

Justina's thoughts:

When testing out skincare, I don't normally swap out ALL of my current regimen at once- I will just try one or two things at a time.  For this review I actually totally quit my skin care routine cold turkey for this.  I was really pleased with the results I achieved from this.  The cleanser is nourishing at the same time as cleaning my skin- it doesn't feel tight or dry.  The facial scrub heats up when you scrub it together in your hands.  It feels so good on the skin.  The clay mask does a fantastic job of renewing and refreshing my skin and improving the way it looks.  The eye cream is fast to absorb but I'm not sure it improves my fine lines around my eye area.  The facial serum feels fantastic and really smooths and softens my skin- I'd be curious what the long term benefits of using this would be.  While a little on the perfumey side, I thought the facial lotion was very high quality, moisturized without being greasy, and improved my skin's texture.

If I didn't have so many skin care products currently going, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a full size in all of these products.  I loved all of the products when used together, but couldn't vouch for how they work if you only purchase one or two.  If I had to pick the super stars of the line, I would say I  love the facial serum and the facial scrub the most.  I find this to be a super affordable, high quality skin care line that leaves the skin feeling great!

Jessica's thoughts:
I absolutely love this line! These are the kind of products you dig and scrape to get every last drop of and are sad to see the bottom of! One of the reasons both of us try the products for the blog, especially skincare is that it can be so person specific. I'm usually the one that has a sensitive sniffer and Justina classified these as a little on the perfumey side, I however absolutely love the scent.

My favorite products are the face scrub, serum, and lotion. The scrub heats up and feels amazing on your skin. You use your fingers to gently massage in circles and it ends up having a feel like a body polish would. The serum and lotion I use together before bedtime and they keep my dry skin moisturized. I've got nothing but good things to say about this line. Major win in my book!

Perfect for all skin types. 3.4 ounces of this miracle moisturizer to lift, tone, oxygenate, regenerate and rehydrate with visible results. $55.00

My thoughts:
  • No, I didn't skip a number. Each product is numbered to make it easy for use. #1 is the facewash, #2 the toner, #3 the serums, and #4 the moisturizer. This is the standard way you should apply your skincare.
  • You may also notice on the website there are 4 different serums. Each has a different purpose and targets a different problem area. You can layer these under your moisturizer, as I did here using the two serums above.
  • The face wash was a lightweight gel with a minimal light scent that was not irritating. My skin felt really refreshed and clean after use.
  • The serums also had a very nice lightweight feel, minimal scents, if any. My skin wasn't irritated and actually feels incredibly soft.
  • My final thoughts are that my skin feels soft, clean, and refreshed. I actually keep touching my cheek because my skin is just that soft!
Stay tuned as we will be providing more Skinshift reviews, including their DNA based skincare.

Product of the Day: Dior Addict Lip Glow

I am obsessed with this product from Dior called Lip Glow. I'm obsessed with it because it subtly adds color to your lips while looking so natural. This basically makes my lips look like my own lips, just enhanced. This lasts for hours and even after I wipe this off, my lips still have more pigment to them. The actual product has a very slight pinkish color to it when applied, but it will look differently on everyone.

: 1. Bare lips, 2. Right after application, 3. Two hours after application

Company Product Information:

What it is:
A sheer balm that enhances you natural lip color while moisturizing and protecting the skin.

What it does:
Awaken and enhance the natural beauty of your lips with this unique balm that promises the perfect pout. Formulated with color reviver technology, this silky lipstick reacts with the chemistry of your lips to create a special shade that will last all day. The addition of SPF 10 will keep you protected, while hydrating mango butter and loofah extract nourish for beautiful, luscious lips. Retails $30,

Top picture is bare lips, bottom picture is lips 3+ hours later after balm was wiped off. As you can see, they remain more pigmented even as the balm wears off or is wiped off.

Final Verdict: A+
This feels great on and has a very nice light scent to it. It is very moisturizing as well and has SPF 10 to help protect your lips. Dior is one of the only brands I will splurge this much on for a product because I use them quite frequently which justifies the money spent (plus I had a giftcard to help with this baby!). One thing I love about Dior Addict products is they smooth out my lips and make the lines less noticeable.

Has anyone else tried this? The concept is similar to Clinique Black Honey which is a universal color that appears differently on each person. If you don't want to splurge on this Dior product, I would suggest starting there. It is also a favorite product of mine.
