High End Department Store Spring Makeup Lines

Jessica recently did an awesome blog showcasing all the amazing makeup that is coming out in the drugstores for spring lines.  I did a quick once over of the mall today and was very disappointed to find that there was literally NOTHING new out!  Total bummer.  However, a little bit of internet research yielded results that were nothing short of amazing.  I can already hear my wallet screaming.

Here's what the spring has in store for us at our favorite department stores!

I focused on three lines- Clinique, Lancome, and Estee Lauder.

Clinique

Almost Lipstick-  Transparent pigment merges with the unique, natural tone of your lips to create something wonderful and yours alone.  Sheer, glossy.  Emollient-rich and very lightweight.

Coverage= Sheer

Benefits:  Wearable Color

$15

This are by and large one of Clinique's best products, and best selling.  We both own "Black Honey" which is a cult classic and a universally flattering color.  Despite the way it looks in the tube it is most certainly a sheer wash of color that you can build to your heart's desire.  I know for a fact I will end up owning every shade- that is how much I love these.

Oh, lawd.  7 brand spankin' new colors.  Based on the popularity of Black Honey, I could easily see shades becoming a permanent fixture in Clinique's line.  Here's to hoping!

Left to Right-
Black Honey
NEW Tender Honey
NEW Luscious Honey
NEW Chic Honey
NEW Lovely Honey
NEW Shy Honey
NEW Spicy Honey
NEW Flirty Honey

Is your honey complaining about your spring beauty hauls?  Here's something just for him.  The anti-puff cooling eye gel came in a men's formulation!
Rough Night?  No one will ever know:  Cooling, roll-on gel instantly revitalizes, hydrates, brightens tired-looking eyes.  Combats puffiness, dark circles.  Absorbs quickly.

In reality I would probably never get this for my husband or any other man.  Why?  Because dudes don't use stuff like this, and if they do, they'd rather just borrow yours.  Also, if you have one of these it totally makes sense to share it because it lasts forever.  I bought mine when they were first released, almost 2 years ago, and I use it constantly- I've gone through 1/3 of it at best.

Moisture Surge Intense Hydrator

A rich, oil-free cream-gel that instantly rehydrates.  Skin stays comfortably plumped, even 24 hours after you put it on.  Daily use helps fortify and repair skin's moisture barrier to keep moisture i in, environmental irritants out.  Better barrier, happier skin.  1.7 oz.

$36

Is it worth the upgrade from the "vintage" Moisture Surge?  Will it be a permanent addition to their line or will it replace Moisture Surge?

I could not find the ingredients for this little guy online, but I would love to compare them to the regular version and see if there is much difference.  I'm betting not!

Lancome

La Roseraie De Delices- Illuminating Smooth Powder

La Roseraie ("Bed of Roses") compact is the new must-have of the Spring season.  The light texture of this multi-dimensional powder eases application and gives a transparent finish to the skin.  The bright rosy pink and pastel shimmer combination is a perfect all-in-one product for cheeks and face.

-Blended fine powder and color-application in 1-2 strokes with a brush or sponge.
-Pearl crystals for a shimmer effect
-Light texture gives transparent finish.

$42

Tip:  This is beautiful and I definitely intend to give it a try at the makeup counter, but a good dupe of this (just by sight alone) is Happy Booster by Physician's Formula.  Unless there is something truly miraculous about this product, I think I'll stick with my $10 shimmer powder, tyvm!

Glamour Eyes by Michelle Phan ($96 Value)

A kit created for Sephora by Michelle Phan, the most popular makeup artist on YouTube and the official video makeup artist for Lancome.
Glamour Eyes features the new Color Design Palette, Chic by Chelle, created and named by Michelle Phan.  The kit includes instructions on creating three looks.  Phan designed:  a natural eye look, a diva eye look, and a smoldering eye look- her favorite.  Also included in this set are Phan's other beloved products:  inky Artliner Precision Point EyeLiner and Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume mascara.

This set contains:
0.141 oz Color Design Eye-Brightening All-in-one 5 Shadow and Line Palette in Chic by Chelle
0.135 oz Hypnose Drama Mascara in Excessive Black
0.04 oz Artliner Precision Point EyeLiner in Noir

$59.50

At the time this blog post was published, these were still in stock, but if I had to guess, I'm sure they'll sell out by the end of the weekend.  Considering the liquid liner is ALMOST full size, and the Hypnose Drama is a little over half size, they are more than a deluxe sample.  Also, the palette alone is about $50 so this is really a steal if you are into these products!

If you want an ArtLiner dupe at a lower price point, I recommend Mary Kay's liquid liner, as theirs also has a felt tip and a similar application.

This palette is only available on Sephora.com, so don't be harassing your Lancome sales woman in the department store!

Lancome Spring 2012 Sensual Vibrant Color Fever Gloss

Discover limited edition pastel glosses in sheer shades of mint, tangerine and rose for a natural, romantic spring look.  With one gliding stroke, lips look more sensual and voluptuous, thanks to Lancome's Vinyl Shine System that keeps color vibrant, and shine luminous and lasting without any sticky or tacky feeling.  Moisture-boosting ingredients ensure lips feel soft, smooth and comforted all day.  Application is always flawless with the unique Lip-Sculpt applicator that contours the curves of your lips perfectly.

Limited Edition

$26

Available in three shades:

386 Green Petal

388 Rose Petal
387 Tangerine Petal

photos credit:  Nordstrom.com

Jessica is a huge fan of the Color Fever gloss.  These colors are a little ho hum to me, but could be really beautiful over a nude lipstick, which I know is still going to be quite popular in the spring.  The green shade is intriguing to me- I could see it looking very striking over a hot pink lip.

Before purchasing these, ask yourself if a neutral, mostly sheer lip gloss is worth $26 to you.  You'd be hard pressed to find glosses anywhere else that are this pigmented and with this much glitter concentration, so maybe it truly is worth the money to you.

Lancome 'Les Yeux Doux Color Design- Spring 2012' Shadow & Liner Palette

Create a fresh, sensual eye look just in time for the Spring with Les Yeaux Doux ("Soft Eyes") available in two 5-color palettes, Rose Romance and Vert Tendresse.  Encased in a luxurious black lacquered compact with a delicate green rose crown, "Les Yeux Doux" is a must for a fresh spring eye look.

For a rosy, sensual look, 206 Rose Romance consists of a mix of soft pinks, peach and burgundy.  For a bright statement, use 502 Vert Tendresse, a warm palette with shades of mint and forest greens.

Apply the shades in five simple steps (all over, lid, crease, highlighter and liner) to design your customized eye look.  Contour, sculpt and lift in soft day colors or intensify with dramatic evening hues for smoldering smoky effects.  Long wear, eight-hour formula.  Color does not fade, continues to stay true.

I've often said that if I could own every single eye shadow palette by Lancome, I'd never buy eyeshadow again for the rest of my life.  That said, I kind of feel that these palettes are boring- especially for $48 a pop.  I'll have to see these in person because pictures normally don't do them justice.  I still feel that the greens palette especially is a little ho-hum.

Huge tip on Lancome Eye Shadows- They are blindingly beautiful and it's really hard to walk away, but here's what I do:  Start covering up with your finger different shades on each palette until you can determine which shade is the standout one that really makes the palette shine.  There's generally one or two knock out shades plus the liner that usually do it for me.  Ask yourself if that shade didn't exist in the palette if you would still want it so bad.  Maybe you would, and it's worth it.  But if you're trying to save, keep reading....Try to find that one shade you love in among the singles.  I got mesmerized but a taupey-gold shadow single this winter, and then after taking a look at the palettes, noticed that the palette I already owned had an exact dupe of the color.

Lancome 'Le Stylo Waterproof- Spring 2012' Long Lasting EyeLiner

Formulated for an intense eye look to withstand everything from tears to inclement weather, this waterproof eyeliner has a unique twist tip that never needs sharpening.  Won't skip, smudge or streak.  The easy-glide, creamy texture helps you create any look you like

Use 502 Green Petal for a frosty mint green accent, or 600 Blanc, a pure white, to brighten eyes.

Come on Lancome!  Really?  A limited edition WHITE eye liner?  How very boring of you!  The minty green color is obviously made to match the palette, but with a little primer and the right makeup brush, you could easily just use the eyeshadow colors all around the eye and skip the liner.  I was hoping spring would bring us a beautiful rose gold liner, or a shimmering ivy, or a light sparkling gold.

Lancome 'L'Absolu Nu- Spring 2012' Replenishing & Enhancing Lip Color

Discover delicious sheer shades that will adorn your lips with a delicate veil of color.  The 1st Ultra caring lipstick with Pro-Xylane in a new infinitely light texture, and enriched with enhancing pigments to reveal the radiance of beautifully replenished lips.

Limited edition

$29

Available in two shades:

Rose Candy

Sweet Marmalade

These colors are very pretty, but I think there are similar colors to these in the Revlon Lip Butters line.  I would look within those lines for similar pink and orange shades before dropping the amount of money these call for.

Tip:  I have only bought one Lancome lip shade, and I have about 20.  They often give out full size samples from their line during their gift with purchase.  Gift with purchase runs twice a year at each major department stores, and usually during different times of the year.  Meaning, you may be able to score a free gift with a qualifying purchase up to 4 times a year!  They almost always come with full sized lipsticks.  Usually, there's a "warm" and a "cool" collection and you get to pick one with your purchase.  I always get one collection, and then come back a different day, and buy again to get the other collection.  You might think that sounds expensive, but in the grand scheme of things, it's actually the cheapest way to buy your makeup.  I love Lancome powder and foundation, and those two products are usually in my daily rotation.  So, I make my first qualifying purchase necessity items like those.  My second purchase is usually an array of fun eyeshadows.  Once I have both collections though, I usually end up with 4 full sized lipsticks, 2 deluxe eye makeup removers, 2 cleansers, 2 eyeliners, 2 small eyeshadow quads, and 2 mascaras.  All that for about $100 is a pretty darn good deal if I do say so myself!  It's all in the planning!

Lancome 'Absolu Nu' Rouge- Gourmand Bare Lips Collection

Cult packaging inspired by Lancome's fourth-edition heritage lipsticks.  The sheer pink shade is inspired by mouth-watering cotton candy.  Enhance your natural lip tone in a veil of shiny, translucent color.  The first ultra-caring lipstick with Pro-Xylane in a new infinitely light texture, enriched with enhancing pigments to reveal the radiance of beautifully replenished lips.  A surprisingly sheer texture will adorn your lips with a delicate veil of color.

$35

I think we can all agree this is a nice shade, but we're paying for the pretty cap.  And why, pray tell, would anybody want to pay that much for a fancy cap?  If it's a color you can't live without, look elsewhere in their line- this looks like an easily dupable color!

Estee Lauder

Pure Color Five Color Eyeshadow Palette

Created by Tom Pecheux for the ultimate eye expression.  A high-style mix to inspire creative blending, highlighting and color accenting.  This versatile palette allows you to play with intensities, mix, and blend shades and express different attitudes- from soft to bold.  Holds five varying color intensities and finishes:  matte, satin, shimmer or metallic.  Delivers high pigment and high impact.  High-performance wear adheres without creasing yet blends easily.  The sleek compact includes applicator and mirror.

Limited Edition

$45

Tip:  These colors are lovely, and a nice combination of warms and cools.  Before you reach out and purchase this, check your Clinique eyeshadow singles, and your Urban Decay NAKED palette.  There seem to be a few dupes.  The shade on the bottom right looks like Clinique's Rum Spice, and the shade on the far right looks like Clinique's Foxy. Considering both Clinique and Estee Lauder are owned by the same company, it wouldn't surprise me at all if those were exact dupes of those colors.  The other two are shades I know I've seen in NAKED or in the Clinique line.  Not especially unique for being limited edition!!

Pure Color Intense Kajal Eye Crayon

Creamy crayon packs intense, smoldering color impact in one single stroke.  Rich, deeply pigmented shades.  Glides on velvety smooth.  Blends easily.  For added drama, apply on lower inner-rim of eye.  Use as liner along lash line and softly smudge over lids to intensify the smoky look.

Dramatic Black

Dramatic Teal

Limited Edition

$22

Tip:  If you are going to splurge on something limited edition, don't make it a standard black liner!  This teal liner is dramatic and fun and not your average blue.  I can't wait to try it!  Estee Lauder has one of the best eyeliners for smudging and smoking that I've EVER tried.  And I've tried a lot.  If I could only use one brand of eyeliners for the rest of my life, I would choose Estee Lauder's, hands down.
Jessica's note: this is L'oreal's new Kajal/kohl inspired eyeliner from their Spring 2012 collection. This looks exactly the same! This is getting great reviews too and for $7.49 is much cheaper.

Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee

Topaz Chameleon

Limited Edition

$40

This is absolutely beautiful, and I'm sure the picture doesn't do it much justice.  However, $40 for a bronzer?  My face better be so beautiful after using this stuff that people are staring at me as I walk down the street in awe over my perfect, 24 K gold complexion.  I better be able to walk on water for $40!  I'll try it at the makeup counter once it comes to stores near me.  The only other bronzer I've ever seen looking this vibrant before is by Physician's Formula- the one with the bead looking things.  What is it called?  Anyways, the more I'm looking at the price tag, the more I want to go and check out my drugstore dupe.

Pure Color Gloss

Experience color like never before.  Pure Color for eyes, lips, and nails.  From the pure intensity of the shade to the sublime shine, this is the next dimension in color.

This color actually is a very odd yellow color in the tube, and it won't show it on this website for some reason.  Anyhow, despite the popularity of this formula, I can't imagine the color will be setting any trends.  In my opinion, it's a very putrid yellow color.  I say save your money and see if CoverGirl has a dupe!  Or better yet, Bath and Body Works' Liplicious line has great gloss with nice shimmer, and I do believe they have a pineapple shade similar to this.  It probably tastes and smells more pleasant too!

Pure Color Sensuous Rouge Lip Color

Sensuous Nude

$28

My thoughts about lipstick are always generally the same- unless the color is extremely unique (Mac Goes and Goes or Lancome Electric Pink would be two examples of hard to find shades) don't waste your money.  ESPECIALLY on nudes/browns.  Do you know how easy it is to find similar colors to these anywhere in a drugstore? You could buy half the line for $28.

Pure Color Nail Lacquer

Turn your fingertips into fashion statements with a wardrobe of sensation shades to add definition, polish and style to your fingertips.

I was not able to copy/paste from a website a picture of this but you know the drill...don't splurge on nail polish, it's totally not worth it!  Sinful Colors makes great colors for $1.99.  Or, even OPI.  Heck, if you are worrying about nail polish that costs $19, even OPI would be a steal!

I hope this was informative to you as you are going into Spring and all the new makeup lines are about to be in stores. Tell me, what is it that you can't live without that will be out in the spring?  I think my favorite was the Almost Lipsticks from Clinique!

Yours in Beauty, Justina
