Guest Blogger- Hair One

Hello TruBeautyGems fans! I’ve been following these ladies from the beginning and I’m so excited to be a guest blogger! For my very first TruBeauty post, I wanted to talk about my #1 beauty secret and FAVORITE product: Hair One cleansers from Sally Beauty Supply!

First, a little backstory: I have been struggling with my hair my entire life. It’s my trademark and my crowning glory now, but it’s been a long journey to get there. See, my hair is naturally very dry and kinks weirdly when I let it air-dry. Also, I have been coloring it various shades of red since I was 13. (I’m naturally blonde, but I dyed it once and haven’t looked back. I color it myself too, but that’s another story.) So with this dry, kinky, color-treated hair, I usually looked like a fuzzball. Shortly after high school I discovered the wonders of ceramic straighteners and protective heat sprays, and that helped the look of my hair, but it was still very dry and damaged.

About two years ago I saw an infomercial for a product called Wen. It was an all-in-one cleanser and conditioner that the spokesperson claimed worked with your hair’s natural oils for a perfect balance. It was made without these things called “sulfates” which the person said were like washing your hair with laundry detergent. I wanted to give it a try, but it was $30 for one 12 oz. bottle, and it was from one of those companies where they take your credit card number and send you a new one every 30 days unless you call to cancel (which we all know ends up being a huge pain in the ass).

So I went online to see what the blogs were saying, and one post pointed me to good ol’ Sally’s. Their version, Hair One, comes in 5 hair types: Dry and damaged, color-treated, dry scalp, normal, and curly hair. On sale they run about $9.99 per 12 oz. bottle, $11.99 regular. What’s great is that you can buy single-use packets for $1.99 for your first try. I loved that, since I HATE wasting money on products that don’t work for me. I still love it because I can buy them for traveling!

I can’t speak for the claim that it works on all hair types, but it sure worked for me. I could tell the difference after the first wash, and after about a month, my hair was the healthiest it had ever been. It has almost completely transformed from dry and frizzy to silky and manageable, a HUGE triumph in my 24-year hair battle.

I’ve been using Hair One for about 2 years now. I have specifically tried the formulas for dry, normal and color-treated hair. I alternate them according to the season. I will NEVER go back to traditional shampoos and conditioners, though I now alternate Hair One with L’Oreal’s Ever Pure line (previously mentioned on this blog, about $6 per bottle and works great).

It was mentioned on the commercial for Wen to try it for shaving, so I tried that too, and guess what? It is amazing! The conditioners moisturize my skin so well during shaving, I don’t have to put lotion on afterward! I don’t use anything else to shave with since trying Hair One.
Sally’s also puts out a Hair One Volumizing Spray ($9.99 for 10 oz.). I have not tried it, and the reviews on SallyBeauty.com are mixed, but I would be willing to try it based on the success of their other products.

Well, I hope I helped some of my fellow frizzy girls out. It SUCKS trying product after product trying to tame the mane. I had so much fun working on this and I can’t wait to do this again soon!

All the best in beauty,
Lauren
