Rimmel London has some fabulous makeup items which you can use to create that perfect makeup look whether it be prom make up, make up for work, or make up for a casual night out with friends. They really have a wide array of products you can use to create a variety of different looks. Today I'm going to show you a Rimmel makeup tutorial on how to create a retro glam look. These products are widely available and can be found at your local Walmart. Keep reading my blog post tutorial to find out the steps I took and the products I used to create this look.

I've been a fan of Rimmel primers ever since I tried Rimmel Fix and Perfect. It created that perfect canvas for my makeup application. I was super excited to try their new Stay Matte Primer. This was the first product I applied. I used about a dime sized amount and spread this evenly on my face with my fingers. This minimizes pores and controls shine for 8 hours. My second step was to apply Rimmel's new Stay Matte Foundation. This is a really light oil free formula that does not feel heavy or greasy on the skin. It controls shine all day long and blends into your skin for a natural looking matte finish.

I then applied Rimmel's Stay Matte pressed powder to set my foundation. This product uses natural minerals to provide 5 hours of shine free coverage. Finally, I used the Match perfection blush for a subtle natural pop of color on my cheeks. I added some Rimmel Natural Bronzer with a fluffy kabuki brush all over my face for a light touch of color. I applied a more concentrated amount into the hollows of my cheeks for some contouring.

My next area of focus was my eyes. I am a huge fan of eyeshadows and creating different looks. Since I was going for a retro glam look and I knew I was going to do a bold red lip, I wanted to pair it with a more neutral lid. I used Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Bulletproof Beige. This is one of my favorite neutral eyeshadow products in my collection. It's super easy and quick to apply and it does have great staying power. This created a slightly shimmery gorgeous neutral beige lid to build off of. To add a little bit of color and to bring out my green eyes, I added Rimmel Scandaleyes in Bad Girl Bronze. I added this right to the center of my lids and then I blended out with my fingers.

I used my Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal liner in Shimmering Back to line my lower lash line and upper lash line. I created a small wing on the upper lash line for a touch of drama on the eyes. Last but not least, I applied Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara for a bold wide-eyed false lash look. This hour glass shaped brush has traditional bristles that make it easy to reach each and every lash without clumping at a very retro price.

To tie the look together, I  next focused on my lip color. I had planned on doing a bold red lip and when I came up with this look I knew instantly that my Lasting Finish lipstick by Kate Moss in 01 would be perfect. This provides a bold red lip color that is sure to get you noticed yet is still a wearable color that would be suitable for many different looks and skin tones.

For hair, I knew I wanted to do a curl which was loosely pinned to one side. I have naturally curly hair, but I used my curling iron and fingers to create some larger curls. I swept my hair to one side so it laid mainly on one shoulder. I put a bobby pin  in the opposite side to keep my hair going in the direction I wanted it to. I then pinned a small piece of hair back loosely on the side my hair laid on. I felt this added to the retro glam look by pairing some more dramatic pieces in with a classic look.

My thoughts:
I think some of the colors are worth the $19 price tag whereas personally I probably wouldn't spend that money just for a neutral glittery gloss. I'm more of a lipstick wearer than a gloss wearer because I do want that pigmented color and I'm not as big of a fan of a glossy look. Some of the glosses had a more noticeable vanilla scent whereas others I could barely smell it and the gloss had more of just a plain gloss type smell.

These do have a slightly sticky and tacky feel to them. It's nothing that was too irritating to me, but if you don't like a gloss that is sticky at all, you may not like these. You can definitely tell that you have something on your lips, but they aren't uncomfortable to wear. As the gloss wears, you can still feel a slight stickiness on your lips. Some of the more opaque matte shades did a better job at minimizing the lines on my lips whereas some of the more sheer and glittery shades made them noticeable. The staying power was pretty good for a gloss, around 4 hours or so.

My personal favorite color is True Love which is a gorgeous pure red color with amazing pigmentation, especially for a gloss. If I had to pick just one color out of this collection, that is the one that I'd pick. I think it's a red that would be flattering on a lot of women and it's definitely worth the price tag. My second pick would be Blushing Bride as it is just such a nice wearable everyday neutral. I like that this is more opaque than some of the other neutral colors and that it doesn't have glitter in it. A lot of it is just a personal preference in color, pigmentation and finish. I really don't think you can go too wrong with any of these colors as I found all of them to be flattering. While these aren't my favorite of the entire line of Tarte products as I'm more of a fan of lipstick like products like the LipSurgence Power Pigments, I was not disappointed overall with these in the gloss category. I think gloss fans will probably delight in this collection.

If you haven't checked out my review on the cheek stains and power pigment lipsurgences, you can do so here. True Love was also one of my favorites of that bunch. Tarte had such a great Spring collection and I'm so excited they've extended that greatness to their Summer collection. Stay tuned as I'll be bringing you more thoughts and reviews on some Tarte Summer 2014 products!

Orchid, True Red, Hot Pink

Orchid, Hot Pink, True Red

My thoughts on the LORAC Lip Luxe Lip Colors:
These provide really pigmented color that is easy to apply. When first applied, they really do feel moisturizing on your lips. The first few times I wore the colors, they really did last all day. I noticed uneven fading but that wasn't until the end of the day and it was much slighter than other products I've tried.

This leaves a slight subtle stain on your lips. I did notice towards the end of the day, my lips could use a little extra moisture so I'd recommend a clear balm or gloss as the day goes on. I'm really impressed with the color selection, pigmentation and long wearing qualities of these lip products. They're actually reasonably priced for a higher end brand at $16 and I think you'll well get your money's worth. Of course as I'm obsessed with purple right now, Orchid is my favorite and I've been wearing it nearly every day!

What do you think of these lip products? Which is your favorite color? Comment and let me know, I'd love to hear from you!

Lancôme Lip Love Dewey Color {Review}

Now that Spring is upon us, it's time to switch out some of your makeup and replace the old with the new. Finding that perfect new combination of lip and eye color can take a little work, time and searching. Lancôme however has made it easy for us this season with their new Lip Love lip gloss products and their new color selections from the Hypnotic Eyes collections. Keep reading for some photos, swatches and thoughts on a couple of these new products!

About Lancome Lip Lover:
A dewy intense lip color that creates shine and color without sacrificing moisture. Captivating color intensity combines with the hydration of a balm in this new three-in-one elixir formula. The balmy base provides up to eight hours of moisture while a smoothing layer reduces the appearance of fine lines and creates a dewy shine. Finally, the saturated pigments provide the ultimate in color pop.

332 Beige Adage

My thoughts on Lancôme Lip Love Dewey Color Lip Perfector:
  • I'm loving the balm gloss combination.
  • This has a really great feel on application that is not too sticky or tacky
  • The wand is flexible, easy to use and makes application even easier
  • This retails for $23 and is is smaller at .15 fl oz which is the only really draw back
  • The top comes off by pushing a small silver button which clicks nicely back into place
  • I'm loving this pinky beige shade for Spring, it's a perfect pop of color and since it's long wearing, I don't have to worry or think about it after application.
  • I've been pairing this gorgeous lip color with a new Color Design single called Café Crème from their Hypnotic Eyes collection. This is a perfect neutral to act as a base or a stand alone color to brighten your eye area.

Have you tried these new products from Lancome? I was a huge fan of their products and their lip products before this, but I'm an even bigger fan now.

Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer

Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer
I use to be able to wake up and really put on minimal makeup, but as I get older, a good concealer is a much needed product in my makeup arsenal. Finding the perfect concealer can be a bit of a battle. I'm a huge fan of Laura Mercier products and the high quality of her products, so I figured the new high coverage concealer may also be a good fit for me!

contains press sample

New to Laura Mercier counters April 1st. Helps to conceal under eye circles and fake a well-rested night of sleep. This unique 3-in-1 concealer was designed to cover, de-puff and brighten under eye circles. The highly pigmented formula builds and blends flawlessly for professional makeup artist result and lasts all day. The concealer was formulated with honey, vitamin E and fruit acid to nourish and smooth skin, and comes in 12 shades, so you can find your perfect match. Apply to under eye area using fingers in a patting motion. And remember, a little goes a long way! Retails $28.

01 Light Beige with Pink Undertone

My thoughts:
This was definitely creamy and easy to apply and blend. I thought the coverage was a high level of coverage. I had a major blemish that sprouted up this week and even my usual go to concealer wasn't quite covering it. When I used Laura Mercier's High Coverage Concealer, that puppy was gone like it was never there to begin with. The only issue I saw is that some of the fine lines underneath my eye area were a little more visible. The shade I picked ended up being a touch too light for me as I've been able to get some sun this Spring, so I'll probably go a shade or two up for summer.

Make Up For Ever HD Blush and Pressed Powder

Make Up For Ever HD Cream Blush and HD Pressed Powder

contains press samples
About HD Blush Second Skin Cream Blush in Peachy Pink
Unique formula melts on the skin for an extremely natural flush of color with a long lasting result. Its blendable, second skin texture allows for easy, controlled application.Formulated with the perfect balance of silica powder and synthetic mica, HD Blush has a soft focus effect that diffuses light for a radiant finish. Its blend of waxes and oils creates a lightweight texture that easily glides on the skin for a flawless result.

My thoughts on HD Creamy Blush:
This really is a great formulation and I'm loving the peachy pink color since it's natural looking and very wearable for all occasions. This is a cream blush that I think really would be hard to go wrong with. The application is easy. I just dip my brush in, apply to the apples of my cheeks and bring up to the hair line. It is super easy to blend and I think it would be hard to overdo it since the color is so natural looking. This is long wearing and definitely wears great throughout a long work day.

About: HD Pressed Powder
This pressed finishing powder sets your makeup and slightly mattifies for a natural luminous finish without a trace of color. Innovative formula delicately balances a blend of three high-tech ingredients: synthetic mica, silicone powders and silica even out the skin tone with an invisible result. This unique combination of ingredients, thanks to its soft focus effect, instantly fades away the appearance of fine lines and imperfections. HD Pressed Powder’s lightweight, silky texture blends seamlessly and smoothes your skin. Colorless, suitable for all skin tones.

My thoughts on HD Pressed Powder:
I'm usually not a fan of pressed powders, but I've been a huge fan of this lately. I've tried their loose HD Powder and really liked that product as well, but I think I'm an even bigger fan of the pressed powder. It truly is colorless and adds the perfect finishing touch to my makeup look. It makes my skin look really great and is soft to the touch.

I'm a huge fan of Make Up For Ever anyways and these are being embraced by that same love! I really see both products working well for most people. The HD powder applies clear so it is great for all skin tones. I really got a natural looking flush with the blush and a polished finished look with the powder. I think if you try these, you will fall in love as well!

What is your favorite MUFE product? Have you tried either of these? Comment and let me know what you think, I'd love to hear from you!
